NEVERMIND: NO FILTER major_west July 2 2009, 20:33:48 UTC
We weren't even given a choice! Do you not understand that at all? I don't know where or when you were handed a sign-up sheet, but none of us had even had the option. We died, we woke up here, with you lot breathing down our necks and pretending you're better than us because you were GIVEN the choice to come here and be a Warden.

And you can tell yourself that you're better as much as you want, and it will never be true. In the end, we were the ones who put aside our differences and worked toward something better, together, while you lot still couldn't even police yourselves.

In your life you were, West. You made choices that brought you where you are now, and I know you know that. You don't have anything to prove to me. Just like you made the choice to riot.

We don't all think we're better, but when you do things like this? It makes us damn hard to convince the rest that we aren't.

Yes, and so did many of the Wardens. The difference between us and them is that we're all dead. Our lives were cut off. For the most part, theirs are still going.

They were opportunists who snatched a chance that many of us didn't have before our lives were cut short.

I'm not debating that. And that's not the only difference. Your choices led you to do things that you weren't willing to repent for. That's the difference. We've all done horrible things and we feel bad for them. Do you, West? If you could do it all over would you still do what you did?

Calm down, Mister. What's got you all upset?

Gee, I don't know. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you people kidnapped several wardens and quite a few people died.

We're not just here to show them why what they've done is wrong, but to help them keep making choices that aren't.

I agree with you, and with a lot of what others have said. I mentioned this in my earlier petition, but I think policing the Wardens, and doing it where the Inmates can see and not just in secret, will go a long way to helping.

Yes, you're right. Of course. Some people seem to have lost sight of that and are more interested in tossing their inmates in Level 0 or taking their things away instead of actually working with them.

And policing the wardens will certainly help.

Sometimes those things are necessary to police some of the more violent inmates, but definitely not on the level it's used.

Angel, has it not occurred to you that we don't want you to be a sole soldier going around doing what you think is right or you think we deserve?

Has it not occurred to you that we don't want one person deciding who should be held accountable for what?

When Silhouette attacked one of us for no reason you promoted her.

Look, this? Is me trying to give you some advice, if you want? This is me helping you to help us. We already have a voice, god knows we don't need anonymity to complain and it is impossible to have missed the things people were unhappy about. What we need is for the wardens to stop patronizing us by assuming that they know what's best, and listen!

And my god man, accept the possibility that you might be wrong for once in your life!

The Silhouette situation is none of anybody's business, Ethan, and since being told to follow my orders, she's done exactly that and hasn't stepped out of line once. I appreciate that no one likes that decision, but it's one they'll have to live with.

I'm used to working alone. It's been my experience that one person making the decisions gets things done, and more than two or three only muddies the waters. I've never been good at working with a large group, especially of people I don't like. That's... You're right. That's something I need to work on.

I'm just trying to give you a place to talk. You don't have to use it.

And I'm sorry I couldn't give you what you needed.

This isn't about Silhouette anymore, this is about you! She made a mistake and she obviously knows it, and then instead of discussing it with the other wardens and coming to some kind of penalty? You stepped up and gave her a new job!

If you don't want to work with this community? Then you have no right to dictate anything too it. We have a place to talk, we had a place to talk months ago when Sam set up a suggestion box, you're just taking a problem that you don't understand and trying to make it about you.

Don't worry about what I needed. What you thought I needed and what I think I need? They are not the same thing. Just on this issue though? I'll do you a favor and be polite about this:

Please, please, please stop telling people what will fix it and what they want and what they need and listen! There aren't many inmates in here who haven't been trying to tell you. Stop trying to assert your manly infallibility and putting them down, and just ask.

If the other wardens want to punish Silhouette, I won't stop them. I, however, am not going to punish someone who's already learned their lesson. Retributive justice in this environment won't do any good except to provide an example for others or make people feel better, neither of which are reasons I'm interested in.

...

... Alright. I'm asking.

Do you feel a little better, having gotten that out of your system?

Yes.

I may have spoken hastily, but I stand by what I said.

I have my reasons for involving myself, however minimally, and I trust you'll take part in talks with the other Wardens. The sooner the lot of you bring me something concrete, rules you want enforced, the better off you'll be and the less -- overt I shall have to be in seeing to order on my ship. I trust you all to rule yourselves to a degree, and it is the only manner by which anything these Inmates learn is going to stick.

I will agree that in the past, such incidences as riots have not been even this well handled, but this must not happen again.
