Hey whatwasthatone - anyone watching the Grammy Awards?

The Beach Boys are doing a reunion song, and there's this guy playing an instrument that looks like a piano keyboard colored on a piece of wood, with a wire thing he slides back and forth across it. It makes a spooky electronic ghost sort of noise, I guess.

What the heck instrument is it?!?

Are you kidding? I thought everyone knew this. A simple google search with "beach boys instrument" brigs up a slew of useful pages.

I didn't know it was a usual thing for them, I was mostly going off the physical appearance from the TV. When I googled something similar I got this page, which seems to be related but doesn't have the same appearance whatsoever, so I dismissed it as something else because I was primarily looking for the odd "fake-piano-keyboard" appearance.

As it turns out, not everyone knows the same things you know. No need to be condescending about it.

I'm somewhat of a Beach Boys and Brian Wilson fan, listen to wide variety of music, am well-educated, and played an instrument for 8 years. I've seen and played a traditional theremin but I've never even heard of the tannerin. Don't worry, not everyone knows what this is!
