It was quite a few years ago; a movie with someone on the run, being pursued through the wilderness by what I think were native americans, with strong allusions that they were shapeshifters or shamans of some sort.

Is it possibly a series of books? I read a couple of books a few months ago that was similar to this (the woman wasn't white). I think there are three books in the series. I'm going to google and see if I can come up with it. :)

I think that might be Curse of Demon Mountain, also known as The Shadow of Chikara.

In Apocalypto, about half the movie is the main character being chased through the woods by Aztec-like people. He is not a woman and child, but he has a wife and child, and their scenes are intercut with his, so could that be it?
