We called my youngest brother "Staple-Head" after he had to have a staple to close a wound on his head. He hated it.
The second time he cracked his head open, he got stitches. So we called him "Stitch".
He loved it because it was like Stitch from Lilo And Stitch.

I was always sporting new stitches and wound closures. I don't remember the kids at school giving me any more hell than normal for it. I was tormented just the same as I was prior to any injuries.

Stitch -- that's cute! We should have called Christopher that when he got stitches.

I'm thinking that at some level, the concern about this unsightly gash and stitches on her face is a girl thing. Not vanity, but you know, girls aren't into wounds and gross-looking things like boys are. With Christopher, the boys couldn't keep their hands of his stitches and bandages!

LOL, You should have met my sister when she was a little girl. She loved gross stuff like that and was always sporting new wounds and injuries.
She wasn't at all tom-boyish, but she was (and still is) into gory stuff like that. Probably one factor why she went into medicine. I was always more squeemish than her about wounds, particularly my own.

By the time her face is healed, nobody will even remember. So even if she gets a little brass about it now, it will only last a short while.

I found it very interesting watching Alexis get stitched up. I can observe those types of things with no trouble (The doctor brought in a chair and put it behind me just in case I got woozy. I told her I wouldn't need it. LOL), but I don't know if I could actually perform the procedure. Big difference between seeing and doing/touching. Make sense ( ... )

How frightening that must have been for both of you. It sounds as if she did a great job with getting the stitches. I'm sure her true friends will be more concerned about her and how she's feeling than how she looks.

I'll keep her in my thoughts. Lots of my LJ friends have hurt/sick children this week. :(

"I'm sure her true friends will be more concerned about her and how she's feeling than how she looks."

That's what I'm telling her. Of course, kids will be kids, so there's a certain 'unknown element' when they're this age!

Oh, my gosh! That's awful. Poor thing. I hope the swelling goes down and she feels better soon. They are so sensitive at that age.

I'll bet mommy had to be very brave, too (I know I barely manage to hold it together when my kids are injured or very sick). I think you each deserve a medal.

Did she go to school?

She had to have a follow up with her pediatrician in 1-2 days, and when I called the doctor's office this morning, they said to bring her today. So, I'm taking her to the doctor at 11:30 and then to school this afternoon.

I emailed the teacher -- hopefully, she'll get my email and explain Alexis's wounds to the class before we get there. This afternoon they're having their Valentine's Day party (delayed from last week since they were out of school due to weather). So, I'm going to take her to the party and then probably back home.

Thanks for asking!
