MMMMMM! Butternut squash!

Happy turkey day, dear, but you are not fooling anyone into thinking you're a real American ;-)

Hello :) Sure, but it is one hell of an excuse to eat and drink and just chill the hell out. And besides, we're kind of collecting other culture's holidays... Ukrainian Christmas, Chinese New Year, Halloween, Thanksgiving... (and that's a really funky thing!) Wonder where we'll go next...

I DO have a turkey in the freezer, but it is a gift for Katje ;-)

And I think you ought to go to Estonia, Italy or Fiji next so that I can visit you! Give Persi a cuddle for me and much love to everyone!

I was amused by the postscript about the red food colouring. Worth noting that by itself the recipe is vegetarian, provided your cheese uses vegetable rennet, but that some red food colouring is apparently made from cockroaches (ugh!) so one should not add it without checking if serving pumpkin pie as the vegetarian option at a meal.

I might try this one. My Beloved is frightened of pastry (making, not eating) so I may impress her mightily if I succeed. I've never had pumpkin pie, but (a) I like pumpkins and (b) I agree with Sir Arnold Bax (try anything once except incest and folk dancing).

As for where to go next: I recommend Tasmania. Lovely place, and we can invent new holidays for you that will suit your calendar perfectly.

I'm not sure that Mr C's folks would want us living in the same state as them... at any rate, quite possibly Edinburgh or London next I think...

I too was afraid of pastry making, but having now done 18 pastry cases for this weekends feast I am over it....

The mini food processor and the marble cutting board made the process a breeze! She should be afraid! It is easy!

Ok guys, that pumpkin pie is absolutely decadent! Give it a go, you will be totally convinced. I was skeptical too. Just. Oh. Wow.

I did always wonder at the use of pumpkin and just how stringy it would be... and well butternut just seems like a better choice.... :)

Happy Turkey day!

Have lots to eat and plenty of chillin!

That recipe reinstates my faith in Americans knowing how to cook and I will have to give it a go once the weather cools down (around April up here, apparently). So many receipes I've found from the US tell you to take this thing out of the packaging then add this other stuff out of a can... All so you can call it homemade. And don't get me started on the 'traditional' recipes, especially the candied yam recipe that Juliana found which used Fluff (you know, that spreadable marshmellow stuff) and mini marshmellows. Yes, we tries it and it was awful. Those pilgrims obviously should have learned to not cook with marshmellows!

Did you go shopping on Black Friday? When Juliana took me, I spent so much money at Katy Mills...
