Great Stuff !! I like Red Heart & Simply Soft yarns for Amis. I get my eyes at Hobby Lobby but there are people to buy from online ChezMichelle is a good one :) As far as patterns look on Crochet Pattern Central there are many freebies to start with. Or you can look at Etsy for some great patterns I have a few myself ; )
All of the amis I've completed were made with Vanna's Choice yarn. I just love the way it feels.
I have one in the works (which has been in the works for a while) that's with Red Heart super saver. It all depends on the texture you want, I think.
I've taken to embroidering all my eyes cause I can't find the right size/can't afford it right now, and it works out for me.
As for patterns....You found a good place, with Lion Brand. I made and octopus off there as one of my first pieces, and then kept going back for more. They're fairly simple, and cute!
I think it ok to leave parts unstuffed, like ears and legs. It makes them floppy and moveable.
I use worsted weight or heavy worsted weight when I can, but I pick weight/brand based on color. Some of my favorites are Red Heart Soft (shiny), Lion Brand Vanna's Choice and V's C Baby (matte, thick), Bernat Satin (shiny) for colors and softness on my hands.
Hobby and craft stores usually have black eyes in different sizes.
Oh, there are TONS of patterns. I guess trying out ones with round ball shapes are the ones people start with, the The Gabu, Amigurumi Dude, Amineko Cat.
Welcome to WLA and our ami addiction! :o) Great job on your firsties!! :o) You're very brave to be working with a color that you don't like... I always avoid that, except when I'm making something for someone who loves the color in question! ;o) Now... I LOVE pink! So I Love your Pink Collection
