how about you just toss it to all the girls? rather than it meaning anyhting or hurting anyone's feelings, it could just be for fun.

the only problem with this is that the girls might not go out. most weddings i attend the bride and groom (and dj) have a difficult time getting women out there (that's why we're not tossing anything). and if they're already engaged they definitely won't go out. so it might end up just being her sister and her mom, which i think is what she wants to avoid.

Yeah, but then my mom wouldn't want to go out either, so it'd just be my sister, and, well, that's too easy. ;)

And besides, I think my mom would appreciate it more. :)

you could do it privately - just something between your mom and yourself. otherwise, if you want it to be a bit more public, i think you'd have to do it in a way that makes everyone aware of what you're doing - because otherwise people may just assume you're giving it to her to hold onto while you're dancing or whatever and won't understand the meaning behind it. but i think the most important thing will be the moment that takes place between the two of you.

You can ask teh Dj to have a mother daughter dance and you can both hold onto teh flowers during teh dance and present them to your mom at teh end. It would be really sweet and a special moment for both of you with out pointing out singleness etc.

Maybe say something about wanting to thank her for being there for you for so long, and taking care of you, and all that other "mom" stuff? It doesn't have to be anything about her being single.

I expected you to be the first to reply! ;P

I don't wanna say anything about her being single anyway, I think it'd hurt too much. :\

I took too long to type up my reply. :p
Definitely don't say anything about her being single. Just give it to her as a sappy "you're my mom" thing. Even if you don't announce it to everyone, just sit with her for a minute and tell her how you feel, and hand her the bouquet. She'll cry, you'll cry (maybe), and it'll be all better. :p

I have heard of at one point in the actual ceremony, the bride takes out one flower for her mom and one flower to the grooms mom and hands it to them, maybe at the end of her isle walk before she is given away?? it would be neat if your boquet was actually 2 put together and it looked like one, then untie a little ribbon and whala, you can give one of them to your mom???? also, there is no rule that you have to toss it at the reception. we are not going to the garter thing where ryan takes it off my leg, because i would feel wierd, "ya we just got married and his hands are already up my skirt" almost humiliating, and he said he would feel awkward also. we both thought, if its that uncomfortable, well just not do it. ryan might just bust a garter out from his pocket or something.

We're not doing the garter thing, because being a small wedding, I know all of the unmarried guys personally (and none of them are under 20!) and it would be a little too weird for me too. :P

I like this idea, too. it's a nice way to honor both moms. or honoring your mom alone would also be very nice. like the other posters said, it doesn't have to be anything about being single. it can be a mom thing.

I think the bouquet toss is a crude tradition anyway. we're not doing that or the garter toss.

To me the traditional bouquet tosses always made me feel bad, 'cuz I never caught it. I was really young for all the weddings I went to, and so I thought I was never going to get married. :P
