Venue Help

So, I know a very good caterer, who I'd like to hire for my wedding. They'd give me amazing food at a super good price. Sounds great, but I'm having a very difficult time finding a venue that 1) can accommodate 175 guests in the winter and 2) doesn't carry a $10,000 site fee. I'm trying to keep the venue fee to under $3,000 ( Read more... )

Long Island will probably be difficult if you are trying to do outside catering and keep the cost of the venue down. You might have better luck in the Hudson Valley. What kind of space are you looking for, other than one that can hold 175 in the winter?

Since we're already putting a lot of restrictions on what we're looking form, I'm really not being too picky in the type of space. I found that a lot of venues that look great can really only accommodate 75-100 indoors. Their 200 guest numbers are for summer weddings. Barns, community centers, women's clubs, theatres, museums, nothing is really off limits.

Thanks, I sent them an inquiry note. Are they doing your catering, or are you having yours brought in?

I was going to suggest a college or university setting. Many have chapels or nicer indoor venues for hosting events. The only downfall is that they often require you use their catering facilities, and if you're planning on something that falls during a semester, there can be really strict limitations. You may also have to be an alum of the college/university to use the facilities.

We used the dining hall of my spouse's law school (it is very Hogwarts-like) and it turned out very well. Because my spouse was a student, we didn't have to pay a fee for use, just labor for using the school's workers to set up/break down. We had to pay a fee to not use their caterer, but it was still significantly less than a site fee for another location.

Thank you. It's definitely worth looking into more. Initially, I wasn't keen on getting married at a college I had no connection to, but my fiance and I just discussed it, and price is more important. I'll expand my search to include colleges.

I don't know how intent you are on your caterer but I found these SUPER INEXPENSIVE venues for NY state that honestly blew my mind. Not sure how flexible you are on locations in NY state, but this website was really informative: http://www.wedcheaper.com/New-York-iinexpensive-Wedding-Venues.html

This is great. I e-mailed a few places on the list, and I'll scour the website for more info as well. Thanks :)

Steel House in Kingston, NY?

College of Mount Saint Vincent in Riverdale has a beautiful church, but I'm not sure if they have a reception hall? It's worth looking into, I think!

I'd suggest looking into wineries, they often have beautiful interior spaces, and you'd think the winter they'd have less-expensive prices?
