Lately we've been trying to figure out an overall budget for our wedding. We're thinking between $10K-$15K Does anyone have their budget's laid out in that price-range?? I'd really like to see them, I feel like random costs keep popping up x_x weddings are expensive.

Secondly, we want to ask my uncle to be the officiant at our wedding, but I'm ( Read more... )

Our budget is 10k, but we never actually made a complete list of what we wanted to spend on every aspect of the wedding. I used the budgeting tool on the Knot at first, but I felt it wasn't very realistic, at least not compared to how much things cost in my area. For example, my hairstylist will charge me $70 and the makeup artist $60, and they're the least expensive I found in town, but the Knot budgeter thinks I should spent $50 on hair and makeup.

It depends on what your priorities are. It might help if you made a list of what you care about versus what you don't. We really wanted to get a good photographer and I had my heart set on peonies for my bouquet. On the other hand, I don't care at all about centrepieces, and we're not decorating the ceremony venue because it's outdoors, so we're saving a fair bit by not needing any flowers beyond my bouquet and the bridesmaids'.

Yes my budget is $15,000 and it is sometimes hard to keep within that range, because little things do crop up and its like crap, why is this happening?!

I don't really have anything to show you, per-say, but I have kept much of the costs low. My ring was $66.50 (we have to get his ring next), my shoes turned out to be free (cause I didn't realize I had money in my Paypal account when I ordered them), and my mom, aunt, and I split the cost of my wedding gown. We're still looking for a venue, but I have it narrowed down to two places which fall easily in the budget (and offer a discount on Friday's! Boo-ya!), hopefully they'll have the date available (if not I have a few backup dates).

The best advice I can give is try to find a venue that has things included like centerpieces at the reception or other decor. Also shop around. I think that's the most annoying part of the planning is shopping for things that fall into the budget, but you'll be really happy you shopped around.

The biggest chunk of your budget is probably going to be venue rentals, food, and photographer. Maybe flowers if you want a lot of them. Once you have prices of those set in stone, then the rest of the budgeting gets a bit easier. FWIW, my budget started at $10K, and so far The Knot tells me I've spent $4500 on the following items ( ... )

I don't know anyone who could officiate my wedding, so I don't have experience asking someone, but I would say something like, "I know we don't see each other often, but I would be honored if you'd be a part of our special day, and officiate the wedding."

Or take out "I would be honored," and put "I would love" or "I would like".

Why don't you call your uncle? I feel like it would be much more personal that way, and it may be easier for you to just be out with it instead of trying a roundabout way through an email. =D If you don't want to/can't call him, then I'd suggest something like ( ... )
