Michigan Brides!

The venue that my fiance and I had our hearts set on is completely booked through October of 2012. Last month I called to make sure there were still availabilities until I could save the $1,500 deposit. There were several. I called back yesterday. All gone. We wanted to get married in May and would rather choose a different venue than wait until ( Read more... )

Did you try asking about a Friday, Sunday, or other less popular day? If one of those days works for you, you could always try asking about that and maybe the venue would be available.

Nothing on Thursday or Sunday? Might be sort of strange days, but if the venue is this important to you, it could be worth considering?

I'm very hesitant to choose a Thursday or Sunday, because I come from a family who loves a good party. More specifically, a party with lots of drinking. In order to have that, I don't want to have it on a Thursday or Sunday night. Luckily, we think we've found another venue!

I'm getting married at Riverhouse in Mt. Clemens. It's a small venue, but has an outdoor garden overlooking the water. At first, it looks kind of janky, but it's really grown on me. It's family owned, so there's tons of things incl. in the price. And the best part of all is that it's so damn cheap! We're paying $20.95/person on a Saturday in May, and that includes the food (buffet), the table linens, chair covers, a chocolate fountain, a late night coney cart, and even centerpieces, if you want to use theirs. The couple who owns the place has been really great.

Like I said, the inside part of the banquet hall looks kind of blah, but it's small and intimate, and not like a huge banquet hall. The outside part has a gazebo, and a tiki bar. It's...quaint. And the price is amazing for what you get. AND I'm doing $21/person, but Fridays and Sundays are like $18/person or something insanely cheap.

I'm actually from Ohio, but last summer my fiance and I went to his cousin's wedding at the Masonic Temple in Detroit, and I loved the venue. I have no idea about their cost or date availability, but I thought that the building was beautiful, and considering the location, they had security, and an enclosed/secure area for those going outside to smoke. And their food was delicious!

I just looked it up! It's definitely out of our price range, but thank you for the suggestion =)

Have you checked the Michigan section of theknot.com? I can't really think of many unique locations that won't cost an arm and a leg. My cousin got married at some Ford House, not sure which one, it was 10 years ago (not the Ford mansion, it was in Ann Arbor or Ypsi I think. It was really beautiful though, they got married outside and the reception was inside, different levels and had a cabin feel but it was definitely nice-cabin, not rustic-cabin.

I have no idea how much that cost, but based on my cousin' personality I don't think she is the type to demand a super expensive wedding, but who knows. You could try googling and see if you come up with it.

My reception was in a regular hall in Dearborn, but it was smaller and intimate (not like Laurel Manor that has several banquet rooms) and the staff was great, included a lot and the price was around $36/plate. I know that's not what you're looking for but if you get desperate and want to check it out let me know :)

I'd also say look into a Sunday.

That's what I did. I wanted a June wedding at a very popular venue. They didn't have a single Saturday open when I called in October, but they had a handful of Sundays available.

The only reason I'm hesitant about Sunday, is that I come from a massive Irish family who (yeah yeah stereotypically) values alcohol. Our guests work regular Mon-Fri jobs, so a Friday or Saturday night is the most important thing, since an open bar is at the top of our must-have list haha.

Ah I hear you! (Irish myself -- I have 7 other siblings and my grandma had 10 other siblings. That just gives an idea as to how much of a stereotype our family is =)) and my dad actually pointed that out -- that everyone will be drinking and whatnot and it'll suck some Monday.

I was like, "pretend it's Superbowl Sunday, only it gets out at 10 instead of 9:30."

Hahaha that is fantastic. Sounds just like my family. And you're right, that's a great way to look at it. My family definitely didn't let the fact that it was Superbowl SUNDAY get them down =)
