Long-line bras in DC/MD/VA?

Apr 26, 2010 22:00

I'm the maid of honor in my best friend's August wedding. (I hope bridesmaids are welcome in this community!) I have the dress (in dark blue), I have the shoes (silver), I'm brainstorming on the hairstyle -- now it's time for the bra ( Read more... )

You don't wear an unusual size, so pretty much any department store in your area should be a good bet. Most of them have a "special occasion" section which has strapless and longline bras that are designed to be worn under formalwear. If there is a Macy's near you, they usually have a pretty good selection of that kind of thing.

(And yes, of course you're welcome!)

Maybe the websites are showing fewer styles than the stores actually have in stock? It's also entirely possible that I've never noticed those sections of department stores because I've never needed to buy a bra like that! Hm. Maybe I'll make a simple mall trip and hit Macy's, Penney, etc., hoping I can remember the fits from one store to the next.

Yeah, there are usually a great many more styles of the more "specialty" bras at Macys than they display on the website. Do you have your dress in hand yet? It's a lot easier to shop if you can try stuff on with the dress to make sure it looks nice and is low enough in the back, etc. Depending on how close the fit on the dress is, you may be better off with something like this to avoid any kind of line. That's sometimes an issue with dresses in that style.

Hm. Like a dress under the dress. Interesting. I wonder if that wouldn't be too warm for an August ceremony.

The dress is due in to the store in mid-May, and yeah, I'll definitely need to check that the bra doesn't show in front or back. Which raises a chicken and egg problem: do you do dress alterations and then pick the bra, or the other way around?

Questions, questions. Thanks for the help!

There used to be a great place in Old Town, but I'm drawing a blank on the name (I moved away from DC about six years ago.) If I can recall the name I'll let you know-otherwise you might try Googling for it.

Trousseu in Vienna and Dor-ne in Silver Spring are the best big boob stores in the area. But you're a pretty typical size I know Trousseu will have stuff but i'm not positive about Dorne

Do you have a David's Bridal near you? I've tried on a long line bra (and will be buying one closer to the time) every time I've tried on my dress there and I think they're very comfortable. It's very supportive (I'm a C cup) but still comfortable and they're made of like a soft spongy material rather than having that hard boning that hurts.

I do, and that's good to know, although the DB stores I've been in have been cramped and rushed and not really the best place for my state of mind to try on that stuff while also worrying about the alterations and getting the heck out of there!

Ah! I ended up asking the washingtondc community about lingerie shops, and got some great answers. I think I ended up at Trousseau in Vienna.
