Last weekend Chris, my mom and I went to check out the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield, ME. I loved it there but, I seem to be the only one. My mom didn't say anything one way or the other, but that's more than enough for me. I know she didn't like it, otherwise she would have said something. Whenever I ask her opinion, she doesn't have ( Read more... )

stonehurst looks really nice!!!

i am always jealous when people post wonderful venues for less than i'm having to spend. it makes me feel like we're paying too much (for less :( --oh chicago prices!!!)

kind of sounds like Chris' decision was influenced by his parents? if you don't mind me asking, who's paying? if it's his parents, then they definitely should have a say. but if not, then it should ultimately be what YOU want. as i'm sure you know. but that's alot easier said than done, when everyone is trying to make you feel bad about your choice! ;) all three are great though!!!!!

Thank you!

I always have a heart attack when I see what people are paying in more expensive areas!

It really felt like Chris decided he didn't like SMAC because his parents didn't like it. I was pretty shocked when he told me they went that far out of their way, just to drive past it. I was even more shocked when right after, he said that he didn't want to have the wedding there. One of his excuses "The driveway isn't paved so if it's raining your dress will get all muddy." - sounds a whole lot like his mom to me ;o)

We're going the 'traditional' route - my parents are paying for the wedding while his parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner.

I just wish things could be easy!! lol

well, if that's the case, his parents shouldn't get any more than a "thanks for your opinion vote." of course, if Chris is saying that that's his opinion too, it gets tricky. maybe he talked to them beforehand, and said something about how they should check it out, since he was on the fence about it? or maybe they are just slightly nosy, and want to be more of a part of it? ;)

yeah! we ended up settling for the suburbs intstead of getting married in the city (where we would pay minimum $100/plate), where we're paying like $60/plate (with open bar and parking--which the city would be an EXTRA $1000 minimum), with not nearly as much food. so yes. jealous. :)

I think his parent's are nosy and want to be more of a part of things... I don't mind involving them but anytime I have an idea, they're the first to make faces or say something. His family is fairly religious - both his mom and dad grew up in very devout Catholic families and they like to do things, especially weddings, by the book. My family is very eccentric and has no restrictions. I was considering dressing the boys in jeans, button ups, blazers and black cowboy boots and his mom about had a cow. After his mom's freak out Chris decided he wanted to wear a tux, he thought it was a better look. Up until then he really liked the idea of jeans and blazers ( ... )

One of my friends had her reception at the Brass Heart Inn, so I'm partial... it was a BEAUTIFUL event, and the barn that's used for the actual dinner was SO nice... If it weren't so far from us, I'd totally be doing it there!

I agree about having some input from the groom on the site... I was lucky that the place I liked the most (that his mom suggested) Jay loved as well, so we had it easy... now it's thr rest of the planning that's driving us bonkers!

I'll make sure we go and check it out before we make a final decision. The pictures on the website don't really do much for it.
