Fifth inning. Middle of the game. There's more than half the game left to go. And when it's over, there's less than half the game to go.

No pressure, though, on either the Enigmas on the field or the Paradoxes coming to bat.

Carlisle is slow moving to the plate, tapping dirt off his shoes with the baseball bat.

Got to trip up the pitcher's rhythm. Of course.

Of course.

Assuming the pitcher has a rhythm and isn't just throwing whatever the hell she feels like.

Most of what Grace does is chaotic, and pitching is no exception. That doesn't mean she's not observant. When Carlisle walks up, she stretches a little more, actually considers the type of pitch she wants to throw.

After she pauses to admire him, that is.

"About ready?" she calls, laughing, as he taps his bat. "I would've brought snacks out here if I knew I had the time."

And probably a beer or two.

"Feel free to imbibe, dear," Carlisle calls back, readying himself into a stance.

"I could probably finish one in the time your pitch gets over here."

Oh snap.

Grace blinks once, then bursts into bright peals of laughter.

It's not that it's a bad insult, as insults go, so much as how it was delivered.

That's the most Goddamn proper smack talk she's ever heard.

"Well, shit." She laughs again. "If that's the case, you and me need to go drinkin' sometime."

Grinning, she whips through her wind up and throws as hard and fast as she can.

He lied, at least -- he has no time for a comeback before bat connects to ball and Carlisle heads for first, hoping and praying for the ball to:

a) Stay fair, and,
b) Stay away from family. He'll never hear the end of it otherwise.

The ball staying fair is no trouble.

Staying away from family doesn't seem like it will be a problem either.

X springs low and left, snagging the ball on a bounce before rolling to her feet.

Carlisle kicks up a bit on speed, blurring a bit around the edges to careen towards second --

Stitch's attention cuts from X's catch to Carlisle's progress.

Hmmmmm.

"Maka maka!"

And with that he too takes off for second.

X moves as if to throw to Stitch, but Carlisle is too fast, rounding the bases toward third before she can follow through.

This is going to be problematic.

She squares off in front of third, eyes narrowing as she watches Carlisle's progress.

What is he going to do now?

Slow down, actually.

Cazzo.

He may be trying to backpedal to second.

His attempts at backpedaling prompt X to whip the ball to Stitch on second.

Her throwing accuracy is a sight to behold.

The ball hits Stitch's glove solidly, prompting a grin from the alien as he watches Carlisle's would be retreat.

However did Carlisle get himself in this position?

He sprints forward again, trying to dodge around Laura and hope that he can sneak by --

And once again the ball is fired past Carlisle towards X's waiting glove.

X is good at multi-tasking.

This is why one foot is sliding back to touch third even as she braces for vampiric impact and reaches up to snag the ball out of the air.

This may be the play that makes X decide the limits of physics are a pain in the ass.
