How are you supposed to write a 7-page paper about a 4000 page novel? How!?? Keeping in mind that the professor wants "scope." i.e. He gave us an example of a great paper somebody turned in for his class, except that it only discussed the first part of the novel (Swann's Way). My girlfriend and I read Remembrance of Things Past as a three-month independent study in our senior year. (I suppose you had to read In Search of Lost Time, eh?) Loved the book, had an impossible time writing the required paper for credit. As my faculty advisor gently (and understandingly) said, “Well, the real point was to read the book, yes?”

Fuck, I would write about that for FUN.

But, Charlus *is* going to be the focus of half my paper. So good call on that. He really is the most memorable thing about the novel.
