A quick BSG fandom rant first.

There's a notable hiatus (almost a month!) in between Lee's discharge from Galactica in 'Six of One' and his inauguration as a Caprican Quorum Delegate in 'The Ties That Bind', season 4.

Color me cruel, by I'm putting pobrequito Lee Adama through AU Hades of Dee not making it off the Algae Planet in 'Rapture', season 3, again. Without the last-minute plug-out, this time.

Lingering in the lighter moments of BSG before it all goes to Hades yet *again* is incessantly all too tempting. The recess between coming back from the doomed foreworld of Kobol and arrival of Pegasus would seem like such an interval of relative levity. Okay, so the 30th fic actually turned out the longest. I'm not sure why it turned out so wordy and inner monologue heavy, but it just kept writing and writing itself. This is one is really odd and unexpected, to say the least. But the 'it all has happened before, it all will happen again' mantra has always been instrumental to gearing the BSG mythos, after all. Hence, it could only make sense certain haunting issues would transcend the eidetic memory of the Colonials long after any mention of Galactica's odyssey ( Read more... )

PhD exams have the capability to render me nearly brain-dead. Taking them in the day of yore, honestly, didn't seem half that exhausting as grading them now. Which, apparently, was instrumental for wiring me into a grumpy enough mood to feel like going into a BSG fandom grumble first.

I love my undergraduates. I really do. Seeking refuge from a pile of essays on literary text stylistics drives me to think and write of things BSG (Lee and Dee, more precisely). On the logistics and logic bombs of a stealth affair it is, this time.

I'll soon run out of creative ways to avoid grading those semester papers. It's just, the visual pattern of 'Sometimes a Great Notion', really got to me. Colorless meekness of the demolished Earth resonated too perfectly with the overall emotional slant of episode, with subdued suffering Lee underwent.
