I wish I planned my fic, it would probably be a lot better. *l* I'm just not a planner in ANY sense of the word - it applies not only to fic but to everything I do in my life. D:

ugh, I so agree with you on that - what an awesome idea when the world is in an economic recession and people are losing their jobs! let's build a giant expensive rocket and sent people to put footprints on the moon! UGH DNW.

I didn't used to be! I used to just make it all up as I went along (and I was a lot more prolific back then, alas), but then I spent a few years barely writing any fic at all, and when I got back into it w/ SPN it was suddenly ALL PLANNING ALL THE TIME. I've also started planning my essays, which is nice. I THINK I JUST GOT NEUROTICER.

omggg I get so fucking angry whenever the government spends vast amounts of money on bullshit >:O e.g. whenever the Queen has a birthday or a jubilee or, idk, doesn't die, and there are all these GREAT BIG GLORIOUS CELEBRATIONS for it and I am just like '... did taxpayers pay for this? >:/'

I AM SUCH A KILLJOY.

I AGREE ENTIRELY.

Fictional space travel is always 600% more cool, anyway. USE THE REAL MONIES FOR IMPORTANT USEFUL RL THINGS. DO NOT USE THE REAL MONIES FOR THINGS THAT SEEM COOL BUT IRL DO NOT ACTUALLY DO MUCH. K.

Honestly, I would be A++ in favour of space travel, HAD WE FINISHED SORTING OUT ALL THE SHIT WE HAVE GOING ON HERE ALREADY.

And people can NYAH about all the useful inventions that came from the space program, if we want useful inventions, how about instead of investing in useless stuff that may have useful side-effects, WE JUST INVEST IN USEFUL STUFF.

IDK, HOW ABOUT RENEWABLE ENERGY RESEARCH, OR SOMETHING.

*facepalms*

YES EXACTLY. It's not that I don't think space travel is cool! Space travel is way, way cool. But good lord let's FIX THE PLANET WE'RE INHABITING FIRST, SURELY? Godddd, I swear, if I ever achieve a modicum of success, I am going to give as much money as I reasonably can to research and charity and USEFUL STUFF. Goddamn, I will be one of those soapbox celebs who goes around preaching at everyone to think about the environment and whatnot, AND I WILL LIKE IT.

I think space travel is awesome! Yes!

I just think if we're going to be spending vast amounts of money on cool science-fiction-y things right now, nuclear fusion would make a whole lot more sense. Not that there aren't large amounts of money being spent on that, but maybe if they spent more progress would speed up, and then I could SQUEAK like a WEE EXCITED THING about it. OKAY, YES, MAYBE I AM JUST IMPATIENT.

(Haha, I think nuclear fusion is SO COOL. I want everyone in the would to be falling over themselves to write newpaper articles about that.)

I would be more a fan of the gov having a go at some epic off-land windfarms or maybe a town powered entirely by solar energy, but nuclear fusion is a lot cooler and more practical than a jaunt to the moon. MOST THINGS ARE, TBH.

(I am mostly neutral on nuclear fusion, tbh. SORRY BB. Feel free to have a go at converting me, although I doubt I'd retain much info at this time of night.)

Also, space travel makes me angry.

SILENCE YOU FOUL BLASPHEMOUS HERETIC. *smites*

Actually, the moon is pretty boring. THERE IS NOTHING USEFUL THERE. WE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO LIVE THERE OR DO ANYTHING AWESOME THERE. Mars? Meh. I want vast amounts of intergalactic exploration, really. Plasma core matter/antimatter annihilation drives! Ion thrusters! Electromagnetic mass drivers flinging us into space! Small self-contained Kerr singularities for ease of travel! WEIRD ALIEN SEXYTIEMS! And an orbital laser cannon for my PMS-y days.

NO. NO INTERGALACTIC EXPLORATION FOR YOU UNTIL YOU SORT OUT EARTH FIRST, YOU HEAR MEEEE.

EXACTLY. EXACTLY. sadhfsgdk raaaage. Hello, economic crisis? Hello, climate disaster? Do these things ring any bells?

(A) TO CONFUSE YOU. (NO SERIOUSLY. I SAW IT AND THOUGHT 'HEH WOULDN'T IT CONFUSE ANGELA IF I HAD A JOBROS ICON.') B) I. HAVE SOMEHOW DEVELOPED A WEIRD, SEMI-IRONIC FONDNESS FOR HIM.)

I would love to steal all of NASA's funding and use it to create a national health service for America. DOUBLE WHAMMY. MWUAHAHAHAA.

... there's a show? Man, I am clearly not as up on the JoBros goss as I thought I was!

I think space travel is super cool and necessary. :( We've got to know about what's out there around us and stuff. Also NASA is hugely underfunded for what they do, they get less money than a good number of way less... savory programs and stuff. SORRY I GREW UP IN TEXAS, I'VE BEEN TO NASA PROPER A LOT, HUNG OUT WITH A LOT OF ASTRONAUTS AND MY DAD IS FRIENDS WITH LIKE EVERY SURVIVING GEM AND MERC FLYBOY. :( They are more hardcore than any Winchester could ever hope to be, seriously. ANYWAY I TOTALLY THINK IT'S IMPORTANT TO EXPLORE SPACE, which iirc is what all the old guard WANTS -- they want to go to Mars, see about habitation, terraforming, etc, but they're basically at a standstill right now. BELIEVE ME I AM ALL ABOUT FIXING OUR PLANET, AND GLOBAL WARMING, AND THE HUNGRY, AND SO ON, LOL RAISED BY HIPPIES but the money that goes to NASA seriously isn't being diverted away from more worthy causes, it's diverted away from things like LOL US NED MOAR GUNZ!!! and stuff, since it's basically a sister program to the military ( ... )

Whyyyyy is it necessary? WHY, SHOI? WHAT POSSIBLE NECESSITY CAN THERE BE D:

fyi, I now associate you perhaps irreversibly with Uncomfortable Silence With Jensen Ackles. I am imagining him going to interview astronauts when they get back down to Earth from an epic travel to Mars or some shit. And obviously by interview I mean STARE DOWN JUDGEMENTALLY.

Also, who/what is the old guard?

DUDE, TERRAFORMING PLANETS? SO WE CAN LIVE ON THEM? Even if we DO manage to do something about global warming/natural resources/etc the population is expanding at a rate that doesn't look to be slowing anytime soon. It'd be nice to have somewhere to go, you know? Also, NASA does a LOT of the research and development in REGARD to issues of global warming, natural and renewable energy, and so on. They're the ones who invent things like renewable water sources and highly developed solar energy cycles, that kind of thing? They're not just about LOL PUTTIN' A FLAG ON THE MOON AGAIN ( ... )

I BET I DON'T KNOW THE OLD GUARD'S NAMES.

Also, ehhhh. Just - ehhhh. Your enthusiasm is cool but not contagious. I'm sceptical about terraforming as a viable option. I'm sceptical about EVERYTHING EVER.
