In theory I should be able to do this. In practice, I just want to stab someone with my circulars. :D

Looks like hedgemom beat me to the suggestion for the jogless jog. That's the best way to avoid the 'spiraling' effect of color changes in the round.

Also, yeah, good lord. 90 stitches on US:10 needles? :) That'll make a wider scarf than the pattern calls for. Since I think you were trying to go down, no, for your nephews--definitely less stitches. :>
