If you go to the Museum of Science and Industry, you might also wander over to the U of Chicago campus. There's a Frank Lloyd Wright house called Robie House that has tours, and you can also see Rockefeller Chapel, and the rest of the U of C campus, if you're into Gothic architecture. Hyde Park also has some good used bookstores.

All the people on the ML who recommended the architecture boat tours and Millennium Park are right on.

There's a bar on the 96th floor of the John Hancock Building--there's often a wait for a table, but I prefer doing that to going up to the observation level.

There's an Italian restaurant called Carlucci that's maybe 2 miles from the con hotel. It's very good and not insanely expensive, but not cheap. There are a lot of non-chain restaurants around, but I can't think of any that are particularly worth a visit, although it's been a while since I worked in that area, so there might be some that I don't know about.

Cool beans, I'll check them out and see how they'd schedule in! Thank you very much. :-)

Thursday and Sunday are my 'tourist' days with Friday and Saturday, of course, being for Vividcon... well, maybe early mornings and/or late evenings I could go exploring. {g}

Just FYI, to make sure you're aware of two things -- one, Vividcon goes almost all day on Sunday, from 10 am - 4 pm or so. You can, of course, skip it, but it's a substantial chunk of the con.

Two, the Vividcon hotel is near O'Hare, which is not in the part of Chicago near the fun stuff, so you have to allow for transportation time if you plan to sightsee during the con. There isn't much to see in the immediate area near the hotel.

If you knew all this already, then I'm sorry for assuming otherwise, but I thought it was worth the chance that if you didn't know, you'd want to.

Aye, I'll probably skip the afternoon portion, which many cons frequently have closure panels. I don't get out often but I like seeing different things. I'd really like to get in as much as possible within a short time.

I only attended the first Vividcon and had less time off, so I mostly stuck closer to the hotel. Yeah, not much tourist stuff but I could check out the food. :-) I don't remember in detail but I *think* I may have lived off airplane munchies and the convention food last time. While folks brought yummy stuff, it's not exactly a 'meal'.

If you knew all this already, then I'm sorry for ( ... )

Even if Gino's has roaches, it still has the best pizza you will ever eat in your entire life. [Gino's East]
