1) Since they did change it, I think the waitress was used to show the fact that he has spent a LOT of his time down there, since she obviously knew him. I dislike that he had a wizarding paper in sight of the muggles though.
2) It's the potion they make in the first class. Using the HPB's book, he wins he felix felicis
3) In book five, only Mrs. Weasley knows/suspects Tonk's "problems" with Lupin, for he doesn't want to marry her due to the lycanthropy. I believe the whole Ginny-running-after-Harry thing, because she's had feeling for him for forever, but in the past year (like during DA meetings) they've developed more into true love vs. a childhood crush.
4) Well yes, he killed him, but the look on his face, and the fact he protected Harry, showed him to not be so evil.
5) Yes, but the fact it was never known if he did have it gave the character more, for want of a better term, leeway. He never wanted to go to the dark side, he just had too, but he wasn't "into it" like many other Death Eaters. (In fact, I'm not convinced the ( ... )
