Apple did made me work for it a bit. I didn’t get anywhere until I was so insistent about my anger and Apple’s need to do something to regain some of my trust, let me upgrade (buy) a phone sometime in the future, and stop me from telling everyone I know in RL and on the internet about how Apple left me open to this $518 bs that the unhelpful rep put his supervisor on the phone with me. By contrast, the supervisor was quite helpful and understanding. The Apple call took 24 minutes and then we had to call AT&T but getting that ridiculous charge taken off the credit card was worth it

it doesn't have any writing programs? not even a crappy word rip off? that sucks but once you are online you can find lots of substitutes for word for free I used open office for a long time before I got word again. open office also has a powerpoint and excel ripoff for free too.
You have no idea how relieved I am to hear that! This crap annoyed me on multiple levels, but I figured with comments closed, you didn't want to hear anymore about it. For future reference - technical advisor tier 1 (who you're speaking to when calling apple care) are there for technical support, they can't help with billing, appeasements, refund or repair cost screw ups, that's always tier 2 (or supervisor/senior advisor, as they are called for the customers). Give T1 the data they ask for and insist on speaking to a supervisor if you have a non-technical issue, they'll put you through and you won't waste time arguing.
Oh, and didn't you mention you had Office 2007? That runs on Windows 10.
