I'm coming into this with low expectations. *g* Though the fact that it's on Starz instead of a major channel might mean it doesn't have to be so totally hetero. We'll see.
I found out some background stuff on The Island of Dr. Moreau (1997) that I thought you might find interesting. Behind the scenes, things were as crazy as they were onscreen. Among the things going on, original director Richard Stanley--who was fired fairly early, partly because he couldn't control Kilmer--snuck back onto the set disguised as one of the animal/human hyrbrids so he could watch what was originally his project go to hell and actually appears onscreen once in a while. Richard Stanley on The Island of Dr. MoreauIt didn't help anything that Val Kilmer was going through a divorce, David Thewlis broke his leg while on set, and the French government was detonating nuclear bombs near the atoll owned by Brando whose daughter, Cheyenne, had committed suicide just months earlier. Brando later received news on set of another death in the family. The script was revised so often that Brando got frustrated trying to memorize things and instead had a receiver in his ear to tell him his lines. Everybody spent a lot of time improvising

When I finally got the DVD of "The Book of Daniel" (a great series with a great cast which was driven off the air by conservative 'Christians') one big treat was seeing Enver Gjokaj as the ex-boyfriend of the gay son in unaired episodes. He really is remarkable!
In Dollhouse he played several different personalities, but my favorites are a teenage girl, a serial killer, and another character in the cast. He'd nailed the other actor's vocal delivery and movements in an amazing way. I knew he'd taken on Topher's personality even before he opened his mouth.
Well, I would have *liked* to have read the article...but by the time the loading lag finished and the fifth pop up video went away, I was too annoyed to carry on.
But, wow, I didn't even KNOW Torchwood was coming to the States. Whu?
Daaaamn. Entertainment Weekly sometimes gives me one annoying pop-up, not five. Sorry about that. I'll put some text here so you can see it and reference another EW article about the show itself.
> [Starz] has acquired U.S. television rights to the next installment of Torchwood. The 10-episode cycle is slated to air in summer 2011 on both Starz (in the U.S.) and BBC One (in the UK).
Several new characters are expected to come on board, joining franchise vets John Barrowman and Eve Myles. Russell T. Davies, meanwhile, will be back as showrunner.
The new episodes will take on more of an “international scope,” says Starz, adding, “The new series will allow Davies and his writing team to tell a more explosive and global story, one that takes advantage of the unlimited narrative opportunities of a premium television service like Starz.”
The news comes several weeks after Fox passed on a U.S. version of Torchwood. >
