1952 Quaker Puffed Wheat Cereal

While reading this article about famed adman Albert Lasker, I tried looking for a larger version of the tiny ad within for Quaker puffed rice or puffed wheat. I couldn't find it, but I did find this 1952 ad from the UK. Eeek!

Puffed Wheat and Puffed Rice sponsored one of my favorite radio shows when I was a kid, "Sgt. Preston of the Yukon". We even bought the cereal once in a while, though we were more likely to buy Cheerios. Quaker's radio ads featured the slogan "the cereals shot from guns" and the sound of ordinary gunshots, with ricochets no less. Back then, I never even noticed the absurdity of it.

I listen to Old Time Radio and I'm sure I must have heard these ads but didn't pay too much attention to them. Now I will for sure!

Wow! That's really fascinating, thank you so much for posting this!!

I never heard this slogan before either. "Shot from guns" marketed for kids, uh...wouldn't play well today. Incredibly creative however.
