Now that registration is open, it’s time to tell us what you want to see as part of the Vidukon schedule/program. This post is for brainstorming ideas about vid shows and panels that you want to see/attend. Everyone is welcome, indeed encouraged, to participate in this discussion. You do not need to have registered yet to participate (but reminder that it’s helpful to let us know that you’re thinking of getting an attending or non-attending registration so we can plan numbers). At the moment there is very little definite programming so if you have a great idea (or even an idea you are tentative about but want to see if others are interested in it) and want to see it happen, now is the time to speak up!
Thank you to everyone who responded to our request for volunteers saying they would be interested in putting together a vid show and/or running a panel. Here is your place to either pitch your idea or hunt in the comments for something you'd like to put your hand up for.
Instructions
1. Reply to this post giving suggestions for vid shows or panels that you would like to see. You do not have to be willing/able to organise these yourself in order to suggest something.
2. Reply to other comments indicating your support for the suggestions of others if it is something you would like to see. This can be as simple as replying ‘great idea!’ to their comment. This is an easy way for anyone to have a say in programming, as in order for a vid show or panel to go ahead we’ll want to see that there is some interest in the idea.
3. If you have volunteered (or can volunteer) to organise a panel or vid show yourself, either indicate this when you make a suggestion, or reply to the suggestions of others indicating that you would be able to take on organisation. In order for any vid show or panel to be confirmed in the program, clearly we need to have someone willing to organise it.
4. If a couple of people are interested in running the same show/panel, you may wish to team up to do so (and thus share the work involved too). Just let us know that that’s what you want to do.
A few important notes
Reminder that you do not have to attend to organise a vid show. You do however have to attend to run a panel. :)
In order to give our volunteers as long as possible to prepare their shows and panels, we will be trying to firm up programming as quickly as possible. Ideas will need two things to get the 'ok':
1. Someone willing to put the show together or run the panel
2. Some support for the idea from others.
We will keep this post open as long as need be but the earlier you participate in the discussion the better, so we can get things rolling and give our volunteers as long as possible to organise their shows.
If we do get more suggestions (with support/interest and a volunteer committed to running them) than we have slots available in the program, we may do a follow up poll to see which ideas have the most support. However, since this is a small event, we hope to get most of the programming organised from this post. This is why your participation here is important!
Ideally, I’m sure we’d all like a good balance of programming. Perhaps not unsurprisingly we’ve had more volunteers so far for vid shows than for panels. We may at some stage have to bear this in mind in determining what to confirm into the program (i.e. if for the final hour to be decided it comes down to a choice between a panel and a vid show and we already have way more vid shows than panels, we will likely give the nod to the panel). Other than that, it’s really up to you to indicate what you are interested in. The ideas with the most support (and that all-important volunteer!!) will go ahead.
If attending registration numbers do increase substantially, we may put on extra programming, in which case we can revisit any ideas that don’t quite get off the ground here.
If you have any questions, as always let us know.
Finally, our thanks to those of you promoting the con to your friendslists--very much appreciated!
Note: In order to keep track of the discussion we will be centralising comments for this post specifically on LJ rather than Dreamwidth.
