A Day of Christmas Miracles

Jun 24, 2006 23:36

A Christmas miracle (shut up, I know it's June): Magnus has made a friend. Even if Ted's trouble, it's a good sort.

Peter showed up, and was his usual charming self with the captain. I didn't think they'd avoid fighting, but my captain walked away. I am so proud of him. There aren't words for it.

I hope he survives this change.

"I admit to getting a less than favorable impression of that elf. If I may ask, what do you know of him?"

"Thank you, Ali." He hands them over and smiles in thanks.

"You're welcome." She folds his coat neatly and sets it and his hat on a shelf where stray kittens shouldn't be too tempted to go just yet, then makes his tea.

"So, since I've been asking so many questions, I should give you a chance now. What would you like to know about me?"

"We could talk about what you enjoy, or about your family."

"My family is a much shorter topic. Black tea, or green? It's just Sasha, Mortimer, and myself right now. And Alured of course, but he won't be making his appearance for about eight months."

"Green, thank you. You're pregnant? Congratulations."

Green tea it is. "Thank you. I believe your other suggestion was what I enjoy? Beyond the obvious parts, I like reading, and learning new things."

"What sorts of books?" Ah, small talk. The Baron excells at you.

"I'm very fond of poetry and history. Right now I'm working on my German lessons by reading the Grimms fairy tales in their original language. Do you take your tea with cream, sugar, lemon?"

"Lemon and a bit of cream." He jumps onto a chair, and onto the arm, settling himself onto it. "The Grimm brothers had an admirable grasp of storytelling. Are you enjoying them so far?"

((Off to work. I'll probably be back on tonight. ^.^))

"Very much. I've always been fond of them. I'm hoping when my German's better I'll be able to read some of the really old versions, before they got around to editing and re-editing everything. It's good to know one's roots." She pauses. "Won't that make the cream curdle?"

((Okay, have a good day. *hugs* Loves ya.))

He nods... then his ears twitch in surprise. "Will it?" He smiles. "That may be why the tea I make is sometimes hit or miss. Just cream, then, thank you."

((Awww. *hugs and loves back* I'm home!

And my tea knowledge is zilch. Luckily, the Baron canonically has bad tea at times. *laughs*))

((LJ does not love me. :( I swear, it hides comments from me all the time!

As for tea, I don't drink it either. But I cook, and I know that lemon + milk is basically the same as vinegar + milk. Does that sound appetizing?))

She smiles faintly, getting out a little pitcher of cream. A little searching, and she manages a teacup that should be just about his size too. "Tea is sneaky like that, getting you to want two things in it that don't really work together."

(('sokay. I needed sleep, anyway. And no, that sounds awful *makes a face*))

"I'll keep on my guard around it," he promises, almost gravely.

((Sleep is good. ^.^))

"A wise plan, surely." She sets the tea things on a low table and settles onto some cushions on the floor, hoping everything will be about the right height for him then. "Especially when there's crumpets about. Tea gets into all kinds of mischief then."

The right height, indeed. He is grateful for the attention she's taking to make him comfortable, and smiles gratefully... not to mention with some amusement for the subject at hand. "I hope it doesn't do anything too unpleasant. I was planning on getting some crumpets soon, and I wouldn't want there to be trouble."
