Watch out for our younger fans, mmkay?

Jan 15, 2010 10:02

Normally I would just ignore these stories because people tend to put themselves in these situations, but the fact that these specific two stories appeared on my flist within hours of each other really, really creeps me out. I don't think the two situations are related, but it's still extremely freaking scary.

So did that girl's mum give that guy a good kick to the crotch or what? Because that's what I would have done! And then I would have dragged my daughter home and told her to stop being such a silly, gullible bitch.

That mother might be awesome for agreeing to it in the first place, but I hope she warned her daughter that the guy probably wasn't Jensen.

*shivers* GAWD, I'm never having children and that's one of the reasons why. I don't want to have to worry about them.

I've just sat back and looked at my comment and realised I'm blaming the girl, not the guy. WTF is wrong with the world when it's possible to blame both parties in a situation like this? I just took it for granted that the guy would be a horrible creeper - that's just life, isn't it? But the girl's actions annoyed me more than his.

Jeez. *takes out brain, shakes it and puts it back in again*

I'm kinda in that same position, because I can't help but blame the girl even though I know absolutely nothing about her. D: What happened to turn me into such a jerk face?

LOL - shows how much I know. I only half pay attention to fandom outside of the show itself. XD

Please do spread the word! You don't have to state that it comes from me - I stole it off of tracy_loo_who and minionstimulus in the first place. I just thought it was worth mentioning when "both sides" of fandom wound up with two completely different predator stories within a day. D:

Yah. and Clif is now on Twitter too: http://twitter.com/Bodyguard4JandJ (confirmed on his FB)
He said another Jensen Faker (possibly the same guy) invited a girl to lunch again :( His Twitter account is Noneed2fake5. Djeez, third incident in a couple of days.

Oh jeeze. Talk about a bad situation getting way out of hand. :\ I'm glad the mother had the sense to say "hey, my kid's gonna do this with or without me, so I'm coming along in case this guy is a creep." I hate that the fandom has gotten enough attention that the truly heinous creeps are starting to come out of the woodwork. I never thought about it before, but this is the unfortunate side affect of fandom being put in the spotlight. :\ Awesome.

Yes, THAT'S exactly what I was trying iterate above and couldn't find the right words.

And yes, you've got a good point. I've heard tales of people taking advantage of Star Trek fans, and people setting up fake "conventions" for Buffy fans... and now they're starting to come after the SPN fans. It's kind of a smack in the face that brings me back in reality. :(

It really sucks, because the fandom was already pretty intense, lol. Now, with the show (and in some respects, the fans themselves) getting media attention, and having an increasingly younger lead-in audience from TVD, I feel like there's going to be a significant portion of the fan base now that are going to be extremely easy targets. :\ Plus, with a good amount of cast/ extended SPN "family" members having legit Twitter accounts, it's going to be really easy to pull a lot of scams. Talk about open season. :\ I love that the show is blowing up and all, but I hate this part.

It's not so much that they're going after SPN fans, it's that they realize it's a new place to hunt.

And to show you how I'm wired (jaded, cynical, whatever) - I'm only suprised it took this long for it to happen. No, actually for a warning to be issued. I'd bet every penny I have, something like this has happened already, but hasn't been reported.

I'm with you on that. There are creeps everywhere, and the fact that these two stories came out into the open so close to each other make me wonder how often it's really happening. D:
