More like activist burnout.

So aside from the typical "I am having trouble with friends" about vegan, I am simply having trouble with friends on Animal Rights things. I've always been an activist, for LGBTQ rights first, then human rights in general, enviromental, and AR. Specifically, why I am so gun-ho about Lolita. Lolita is an orca (killer whale, but they are dolphins) ( Read more... )

You are definitely not alone. I have seen activists get "burn out" in this movement over and over again and it must be said that you just can't keep a good activist down. People like you couldn't stop caring even if you tried, so best to just keep trucking on :)

Sorry about what you're going through. I wouldn't call myself an activist, as my main contribution to AR is being vegan and a few other little things from time to time, but it must be really hard to keep hitting the wall like that. Thanks for being an activist for this and so many other great causes! I've heard a review of aftershock a while ago and it sounded pretty good, so i second that recommendation.

I've seen several activists burn out (HR activist, dealing with the desaparecidos here and such). it's not easy, but you're a human, not a robot so, what makes you strong can also make you "weak" sometimes (your ability to care, I mean).
don't worry: drink some tea, talk to a friend, go for a walk, just take some time off. you'll feel ready to go back in a little while.

I think the advice to take a break is a good one. However, I don't think the 'break' needs to be a strong one. If certain things cause you to feel burnt out, just putting more of a focus on other forms of activism, at least temporarily, may help give you the motivation and strength needed to continue the campaigns you feel strongly about. You may also find others who share your passion while doing so.

Good luck. I sincerely hope you start feeling empowered again soon.
