Milo and Otis

Aug 24, 2008 20:09

So today I was watching Milo and Otis. I haven't watched it since I was like 5, so now I was watching it with a new perspective. Expecting to sit down and enjoy a cute cuddly movie narrated by Dudley Moore (him trying to impersonate a cat giving labor is just too funny) I actually found myself really disturbed. The animals are clearly shit-scared ( Read more... )

Um.. I think this just broke my soul and dashed whatever remaining childhood innocence I might have still been clinging onto. Haven't seen the movie in a trillion years but I know I used to love it when I was quite little.

Jesus, I'm going to cry myself to sleep now. What a horrid thing to learn : (

"No animals were hurt during the making of this movie"

Anyway, what's the point of saying that (when they do say it -- I understand that they don't say it in this case) when, in the making of every movie, hundreds of animals get eaten?

arg. i used to love milo and otis. Thats such a bummer too because if i remember a lot of the subject matter had to do with highlighting that they experience similar emotions to us. Friendship was really big in that movie. That totally blows. I think i just died inside a little.

unfortunately i think that would be people separating animals into the food/not food categories. I don't think it would even occur to most of them that the animals that they might serve in the food on the set or whatever were actually as living and breathing and feeling as the ones that statement ('no animals were hurt during the making of this movie') claims to protect.

People are shit.

You know that scene where the cat is in the barrel and goes over the waterfall? They killed a cat for each take they did that.

Yeah, I seem to remember hearing that they killed somewhere between 7 - 9 cats making this movie. I don't know about how many dogs.

i heard it was 16 or 17 cats.

far fewer dogs.

the movie horrifies me. i refuse to watch it.

i actually won't watch any animal movies that are more than a few years old (and even then i dont usually watch them) because they probably killed at least one creature or at least tortured one during the course of filming.

Yeah, there were at least 6 cats and dogs they used to play either character. But it's good things have progressed (some) so there are standards now for treatment of animals in film.
