coworker advice

Started a new job this week. I have one coworker who keeps remarking "eat a hamburger" or "eat meat"...I find it rather rude and want to shut her up but do not need to get fired on my second week. How would you deal with it?

Tell her exactly how you feel about it. Tell her that you find her remarks disrespectful and rude, and that you would like her to stop, because it's hurtful, offensive, and inappropriate. And after you confront her if she keeps doing it, tell your boss. I mean, this wouldn't be tolerated if she was making questionable remarks about your religion, race, sexual orientation, or anything like that.

Ya! I used the above a lot...I don't see the problem with my veganisim. My other coworkers were like shocked that i am vegan and have a meat-eating b/f...I told them I don't trip on other peoples business. I even brought people fresh fruit from farmer's market not for vegan-purposes but hell the plums were yummy last week!

I would ask what they are trying to prove. Those comments seem really bizarre to me. I could see if they made some anit-veg comments about how it is pointless or unhealthy or whatever, but they just seem so immature and ridiculous.

I usually just laugh it off.

When people say stuff like that jokingly but then it seems sort of mean-spirited, I will mirror their words back to them: "You want me to start eating meat, right?"
They might reply: "Well, uh... yes..."
I might say, "Well, I'm not going to" and leave it at that.
Sometimes people want some sort of dialogue, and that's what makes them say these "funny" comments, and even a brief dialogue (like the one described above) can bring the issue out into the open and relieve the pressure they feel.

If they keep doing it after that, I would just ignore them. They're like pot smokers who think they can justify their habits by getting others to join them.

ive put up with my manager for almost 4 years. ive left crying, ive told him how i felt, ive even told him to fuck off. nothing. it sucks that we have to put up with close minded pieces of shit because we need the money. it could be worse, your co worker could throw meat at you like mine!

he does, but they dont care. no one cares. everyone gets away with worse.
i get called a hippie and laughed at...because im vegan and ride a bike? apparently, thats grounds for being a "WEIRDOOOOO!". im moving in a few weeks and i cant wait. i just ignore it now and its not quite as bad, but that seems to be the only thing to shut him up.
