An inconvenient lack of support...

The other day I see the new movie, An Inconvenient Truth. While I've strongly believed in many of the things expressed in the film, There wasn't a single mention of how we eat and what we consume. Not once did they suggest reducing meat consumption, etc etc. It was my belief that one of the greatest things I am capable of doing to reduce the ( Read more... )

I expected it to be noticed and hopefully mentioned from someone who seems to care so much about the subject.

Although I wasn't particularly amazed in every way by the show, the fact that he made the film at all was impressive enough to me (regardless of his political intentions, if any at all). It has been shown that in all 'important' areas he was right on the science (I think he accidentally used Antarctic for one of his ice meltage examples when it was Greenland). And the hype alone is enough to get people talking about it, even when those outside the target audience will likely not see it.

He may not be Dennis Kucinich, but it's a start ;)

switching from an omni to a vegan diet is about the equivilant of switching from a gas-guzzling automobile to a hybrid car.

I actually got to attend a Q&A with Al Gore after a showing of the film, and I tried to ask this very question but was not called on! I agree that the lack of mention is very surprising and frustrating. Maybe it has something to do with his growing up on (what looked to be in the movie) a family beef farm?

but still, In my mind, if he is that serious, then he surely would be willing to use himself as a prime example.... I have a fraction of the knowledge that he does on this very subject, and what I new driven me to strict veganism years ago!

we could all flood the comments pages on his blog with links to info. Vegan Outreach has some pretty basic info on the link between going vegan and environmental effects:

Why Vegan?

I think that if several of us made courteous posts regarding the connection between food production and environmental degradation, including links like those you mention, it would be A Very Good Thing.

I'm off to do that now. Thanks :)
