I saw some uncut but individual bananas, peel and all, in plastic bags "For Freshness!" who else thinks THAT is absurd? Isn't that what the peel is FOR?

I wish I'd taken a picture- that was some crazy stuff. It was a Dole label. Anyone else seen these?

I read an article in New Scientist a few years back.  It was great.  It said "Hey, you know what? Perhaps this 'local thing' isn't all it's cracked up to be.  Maybe eating meat and dairy has a bigger environmental impact and you should stop ( Read more... )

Hey everyone, I don't know how many of you are fans of the 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle' policy, but I figured this might be relevant for at least a few members. This is Miami Dade County's (Florida) new policy and procedure for recycling. One of the arguments that I've found the most logical and persuasive on people when it comes to giving up meat is of course relating it to environmental efforts. Most people are willing to agree that meat production plays a part in global warming, but I've never been able to find actual numbers. I'm glad to see this in TIME, but the last paragraph completely sucks!
