Fast Food French Fries

Dec 19, 2006 21:31

Alright, so some fellow vegans told me that Wendy's was the only popular fast food place with vegan fries. Then I checked the ingredients on Burger King fries and didn't see anything that I knew of to not be vegan. McDonald's fries clearly are not vegan or vegetarian as they are flavored with beef. But here are the ingredient's to Burger King fries ( Read more... )

I didn't think that McDonald's fries have been flavoured with beef for years now. There was a big law suite and everything.

But, It seems you are right. Huh. It's a good thing that I don't really go there very often!

For the Canucks out there, Harvey's fries are vegan, but their onion rings are not (they contain some dairy in the batter).

Lafleur's are vegan, as are La Belle Province's as they are fresh cut (at Lafleur's they even prep the potatoes in front of you.)

Locally (in Quebec) these places are just as popular, or more, than Wendy's, though still less than McDo.

they still do. beef tallow. the lawsuit came about because they weren't labeled as such... and now they are.

Yeah, and I remember reading in a few places a while back that they contain milk as well.

Apparently they used to be flavored with a chicken based amino acid. Now, the only reason I can think of why they might not be vegan is if they are fried in the same oil as non-veg*n products, like chicken or something.

Also, if you look on that same website, you can find a lot of information about other fast food places. Apparently Jack in the Box's fries are vegan as well, as long as they are fried separately from meat products.

The vegan freak book says they are vegan, and to meet that standard they can't share oil ... I think the one I have is very recent ...

Regardless, you're better off just not having fries unless you handcut them yourself. All those additives...*shudders*

seriously! that is disgusing. those ingredients are most likely gmo and heavily pesticided too.

plus, why would you want to support a giant animal and economy killer? globalization helps no one.

the last four words of this post are utterly ridiculous when put together in that order, and not really relevant to anything we're talking about.

but why would i eat at burger king? because they offer a veggie burger, one of the most helpful things any fast food corporation could ever do for animal rights/welfare. and now that i can make that a veggie burger value meal with fries, well, im stoked.

globalization helps no one. only large corporations like mc donalds or burger king.

it doesn't help the animals they kill for profit, the forrests they burn down, the species they eradicate, the poor people they destroy or the middle class that is becoming smaller.

globalization has everything to do what we are talking about because it is a factor in why you shouldn't go to places like burger king- along with the fact that their ingredients are disgusting, harmful and i don't even think that their veggeie burger is vegan. I know Morningstar is now coming out with Vegan products, but i don't think that veggie burger is.
