that said, the only time I had daiya was in the gardein "marinara chick'n good stuff" and amy's new vegan rice mac and soy cheeze.
the mac and cheese was just craaazy greasy and so fattening (it said like 20+g fat for the small frozen meal) -- though it eerily melted like dairy cheese. but anyway, I really wasn't impressed. is it really that fattening? yikes!
haha your body definitely needs fat, it's especially good for your brain -- but in moderation! 22g of fat for a cup of macaroni and cheese is insane and made me feel kind of dirty :)
and I'm actually not a fat hater! this is coming from the girl who lists vegan doughnuts and french fries as her favorite foods. for some reason, the product I had *tasted* fattier than even follow your heart/vegan gourmet, and I'm pretty sure that has just about the same amount of fat as daiya. anyway, I'm definitely going to pick some up and cook with it myself (rather than rely of packaged, processed tv dinners) when the retail sized packs hit stores around here.
sorry, didn't mean to come off like a lecturer. :p definitely making your own food is superior to prepackaged. lemme know what you think if you try this recipe!
I'm studying abroad, and my apartment doesn't have an oven this semester. Just a stove-top. I'm not even a fan of tofu/a vegetarian and I want to make this sooooooo bad.
What does the tapioca starch do? I assume bind it together? I'd love to try this recipe for a dinner on Sunday, and I can't get ahold of it (or arrow root, or anything fancy like that) unless I order it online. Would corn starch work, or does it do other things altogether?
