Thanksgiving is coming up(Canadian) and I was wondering what your favourite Thanksgiving recipes are? I'd like to try some sort of thing that resembles turkey, but tofurky grosses me out.

I just made that gravy, using the vegetable broth recipe as well and it is very good. I make my own stuffing, too, so this is something my house will be smelling of this weekend!

You (and the OP) might be interested in this recipe:

2 lb or 5 or 6 sweet potatoes, cooked and mashed
1/2 cup white sugar
1/4 cup soft margarine
1 tspn. vanilla
1/4 tspn salt
Mix together or blend the above ingredients. Put in casserole with the
following topping.
Topping: Melt 1/4 cup margarine. Add 1/2 cup packed brown sugar. Spread over potatoes and then sprinkle pecans over. You can chop pecans or arrange pecan halves on top.
Bake uncovered in a 350 F. oven for 30 minutes.

It's GOOD. The original recipe calls for 2 eggs and I'm not sure if a substitute is needed or not. I think you can get away without any further thickening - it just won't be as thick as the version with eggs.

I've made it from vital wheat gluten before, and it's super easy. Basically combine gluten, water (or broth), & spices. Mix into dough, and either simmer or bake until done.

I've never made it the more traditional way (from whole flour), but it's still not that hard - just a little more time consuming.

hahaha. this recipe is posted in the thanksgiving threads year after year.

(and for good reason too. OMG so good!)

this recipe is more involved than other seitans, but it's totally worth it.

this is how much that one recipe makes.

I dislike meat substitutes so I can help you there, but I do love stuffing. All you need are some dried bread cubes (or buy them in a bag in most supermarkets) and boil a cup or so of water with some melted fat in it and some seasoning. I don't measure, sorry, but a little Knorr's veggie powder and some dried sage.

It's essentially no different than packaged instant stuffing but this way you can control that it is all veggie. Add some sauteed portabello mushrooms, if you want.

I could just eat a whole bowl of the stuff...
