Chocolate-Tofu Pie

The pie came out excellent. Here is the recipe, which came from The Magic of Soy cookbook. (My personal notes are in parentheses.)

INGREDIENTS:
2 (12.3-ounce) packages extra-firm silken tofu

2/3 cup sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 ounces chocolate chips

1 (9-inch) graham cracker crust, baked

I've made something similar to this, and the chocolate overpowers the tofu taste. In fact, my sister-in-law didn't know that it was tofu until I told her, and of course I didn't tell her until she had eaten it all!

I would only add to this that the tofu should be at room temperature for the chocolate to blend smoothly. Once I added warm melted chocolate chips to cold tofu that had just come out of the fridge, and the chocolate just solidified into clumps instead of blending. It was horrible.

hardly. The chocolate syrup helped, which is why I threw it in there. My boyfriend said the pie tasted like chocolate soy milk.

Going to try this. Been easing the SO into using more tofu and they seem amiable to it. OF course now that you've posted a pie recipe... *g* To quote the SO, 'Mmm Pie - it's not just for breakfast any more.'

Sounds pretty awesome but to excuse my tofu inexperience, aren't silken tofu and firm tofu totally different things?

i'm confused...was there protein powder in it or not? it's in the directions, but not in the ingredients...

probably could do without it, seems like an adhesive or extraneous protein. the firm silken will bind it together well enough if i recall my past tofu pies.

it is optional. Sorry about the confusion. The cookbook was released by GeniSoy, so all their recipes list their protein powders as an ingredient, but it's up to you if you want to add it. Just a small scoop is fine.

just a small scoop (if it's included with the powder) or a tablespoon. It's optional.
