Vegan Green Beans with "Bacon" Flavor?

Hi, all! My mother is getting much better about my veganism (and my boyfriend's vegetarianism), and has decided (mainly to save pots, but hey...) that this Christmas, she's going to just make vegan versions of all the food, instead of making two versions of everything. Vegan liquid smoke flavour and some margarine would give them a bacon-fatty taste and texture.

Yes, indeed. Tell them to add only a drop or two of the Liquid smoke and taste it before adding any more - you need only tiny amounts for a very strong taste.

Oh yes and I know how excited you must be!! I have been vegetarian for 10 years and vegan since August. When my Aunt announced that she didn't want a turkey this year for Thanksgiving I felt like having a party - *lol*. We used to live with my Grandpa and we'd end up with my Aunt, Uncle and then my cousins after they were born around for Thanksgiving at some point and so there was always a dead bird on the table there and some dead animal at x-mas no matter where we spent it. In July of 2003 we moved out of my Grandpa's place and have been living on our own since then. The last two years she bought a turkey - just for herself!! - at Thanksgiving. The first year this happened she didn't even go out to buy it until the night before Thanksgiving. I was out shopping with her and I got dragged to 4 stores before we ended up back where we had started with her buying a turkey that was too much for her b/c it was the smallest she could find and they had one that was less frozen (eww). The next day her turkey didn't cook on time and she ( ... )

i agree with the liquid smoke. also, bryanna clark grogan mentions using sesame oil in place ofm bacon fat.

i've always thought that nutritional yeast had a weird, bacony sort of flavor. maybe add some of that and a little bit of liquid smoke? let me know if you find something that works though because this is a dish my dad used to make and i miss it!
