Hi, all! My mother is getting much better about my veganism (and my boyfriend's vegetarianism), and has decided (mainly to save pots, but hey...) that this Christmas, she's going to just make vegan versions of all the food, instead of making two versions of everything. Our main dish will be tamales, and she'll be getting vegan and meat versions ( Read more... )

Oh yes and I know how excited you must be!! I have been vegetarian for 10 years and vegan since August. When my Aunt announced that she didn't want a turkey this year for Thanksgiving I felt like having a party - *lol*. We used to live with my Grandpa and we'd end up with my Aunt, Uncle and then my cousins after they were born around for Thanksgiving at some point and so there was always a dead bird on the table there and some dead animal at x-mas no matter where we spent it. In July of 2003 we moved out of my Grandpa's place and have been living on our own since then. The last two years she bought a turkey - just for herself!! - at Thanksgiving. The first year this happened she didn't even go out to buy it until the night before Thanksgiving. I was out shopping with her and I got dragged to 4 stores before we ended up back where we had started with her buying a turkey that was too much for her b/c it was the smallest she could find and they had one that was less frozen (eww). The next day her turkey didn't cook on time and she jokingly accused me of hexing her turkey. So yes yes we had a vegan thanksgiving this year and it rocked my sux!!! She isn't getting any meat for Christmas but she is talking about making stuffed shells for herself so she can eat cheese. w/e - i don't feel like arguing with that one. Man - I was soo touched though when she said we could have a vegan thanksgiving!!! yay to you for a vegan christmas.
