True Although I've accepted that I may need to have some interim furniture that will only be destined to hold up for a year or so, so IKEA is not totally out of the question.
I've got a fairly decent budget for nice stuff for one bedroom, living/dining, and kitchen. Sofa, tables, bed, etc. I've got stuff for the office (amusingly), and the other bedroom will be rented outed unfurnished.

geez, i don't know what you do with your furniture, but everything my family's ever gotten from ikea has held up extremely well. i think we've got a few sets of cabinets at the house that are nearly 20 years old.
in serious response to the original spirit of the post, though ... i say ... go ahead and buy a house. you know you want to stay in the dallas metro region. you've got a great job that affords you travel, and gives you the means. worse come to worst, you could sell the thing in a few years and make a profit. best case, you'll keep moving up in the world, and it'll be a nice place to settle into.
what's the yard like? and the neighborhood? is there any chance they'll let you sleep a couple of nights in the house to see how you really like it {this is a new trend}?
Go for itttt! ;) Good luck w/ everything! Sorry I can't help in the way of decorating.. well, unless you like everything to have a U2-related theme?? LOL but I'm somehow doubting that. (and I AM just kidding...sorrda).
ok i'm a pretty fabulous decorator. and i don't shop at ikea.
i'm sure the fact that i'm in a different city makes you think this might be a silly idea, but i'm fine with it. and really once you buy this house and decide that you'd like to live in something that doesn't have all off white walls and catalog furniture let me know and we'll make a deal. i'd actually really like to swap services with you. *laughs* and i don't mean that in any weird way......cuz after i wrote it i realized it sounded dirty. :P
but really, if you want something different that just doesn't look like the typical "guy" house let me know. or ikea house for that matter.
Thanks for the offer! That'd definitely be fun, and I enjoy working with creative people who have a vision of what they want to produce - I'm much more of an engineer in the sense that I can take an image or idea and figure out how to do it.
