LJ Idol 9, Week 9: Keep Calm and End This Meme

May 19, 2014 17:14

Does anybody else miss the days when Frank, the LJ mascot, was having a romance with Meme the Sheep? Okay, so in actuality, I barely even read those things and thought they were kinda dumb, so I guess what I miss is LJ's heyday, before it became this desert wasteland of ONTD and people who will never leave because they shelled out for permanent ( Read more... )

I miss the heyday, too. We can miss it together because some folks just simply refuse to acknowledge it, or they act like I'm some sort of freakish holdout with a melancholia violin and it's not that, at all. It's about the loss of immediacy, the creativity, the fun. The camaraderie. I miss it the same way I miss yahoo email lists and news groups. We had fun. And it wasn't impersonal and it wasn't about what I had for dinner and with whom. It was about WORDS.

I'm not going to let go of LJ.

I do miss Frank the Goat and Meme the sheep! While finding it kind of stupid at first, I got into it!

I get tired of all the ONTD posts, too.

I wish more people would come back to LJ. I mean, you can have a free account like me. The commenting system is WAY BETTER than Blogger. Why does everybody love that so much? Just because it is owned by Google?

I've spoken about the seemingly spiraling death trail of LJ before. Idol, too, but not so much because we're all still there ;) And I remember Frank and Meme too!

I miss the friendships most of all. Even though I have a lot of ex-LJers on my FL over at Facebook, there are more with whom I lost touch. I have no idea if they're on FB because I never knew their RL names. And, like you said, it's a whole other way of communicating there. I think in a way it's also spilled over to here because now everybody is sooooo afraid of being outed...which is why I never let on I'm here over there, if that makes sense.

I tried Google+ and didn't like it. To me it's more of a Facebook clone than anything else.

That's what I miss too. I have a lot of LJ friends on FB, but since their friends feed is such crap I've lost touch with most of them. I prefer the layout here where everything shows up in chronological order and the filtering system works.

You're not the only one. I understand the POINT of it, but it irritates the crap out of me.

And Tumblr is like an endless Facebook scroll (as is Twitter), and had no decent 'filter' mechanism. Shiny, new, and dreadful. :(

I could not read the Frank/Meme stories after a few tries. They reminded me of round-robin story-telling, with imminent topic drift...

"I can be candid, like I used to be here, where I am anonymous.
I miss the other friends. The online-only friends who I'm sure are on That Other Site, but it's not the same because people interact differently there." - could relate to this part..:)
Hope you stay back and maybe LJ turns out to fun again..being a newbie this was nice to know about..last seasons and stuff.
