Squall didn't have to wait too long. Soon enough, Selphie came by. She'd headed out with the idea of treating herself to some cake from her favourite cafe. After all, she damned well deserved it.

The fighting had exhausted her, and the healing had too. Using magic in Vatheon seemed to drain all her energy so quickly. She looked tired, but far better than she had done a day or so before. So when she saw Squall, she was at least able to give a bright smile and a wave, "Hey!~"

Trust Selphie to be able to find him even in the middle of a city. Not that Squall didn't want to see her. Her presence was a comfort to him, someone familiar while he was stuck in this world that was still strange to him.

"Hello, Selphie," he replied. "You look well." Much better than when he had last seen her at any rate.

Well, fighting was one way to distract oneself when you were hating Vatheon for taking all your friends away. That, and Squall was here. It was almost a fright seeing him there, and she made a few quick steps for a hug, but she tripped over her own feet and ended up standing wobbly in front of him instead.

"Thanks! Wanna come get some cake with me?"

When Selphie stumbled Squall moved to catch her, but she caught herself in time.

"You sure you're okay?"

She looked...tired. He was too, though he was better at hiding it. Squall didn't want her to drag herself around if she needed some rest.

Onion Knight had a few reasons to search for Squall. Only one was actually pertinent to doing something about the kraken problem.

So when Onion Knight caught sight of Squall, he approached. It was hard to keep his relief from his voice, but he tried, anyway. "You're alright!"

Oh, it was the kid. It looked like he got out all right as well. Not that Squall was worried or anything. Onion Knight was young and he talked too much, but he was also more than capable of taking care of himself.

"And you look fine too, Onion Knight," he replied.

Sometimes, he wished the kid would just tell him his goddamn name.

Onion Knight was about to respond when something Squall said struck him as really odd. Everyone else he'd met in the war and seen in Vatheon had forgotten him. The fact Squall knew his 'name'...

He couldn't keep the surprise off his face. "Wait... you remember?"

How had it taken him this long to realise this?

"Remember what?" Squall asked, unable to understand why Onion Knight was staring at him like that.

Squall had always wondered during the conflict if he'd be able to keep the memories that had been formed there once he left. It seemed the answer to that was yes, and as terrible as the War of the Gods was, he was happy for it.

Memory was kind of a touchy subject with him.

She had decided that staying at the place she was currently taking residence in was making her a bit antsy, so she was out and about herself. Now that the attacks had subsided from the Kraken, the city was relatively safe again ... for the time being. Kohaku didn't have to be here for very long to know that this couldn't have been a normal occurrence, and despite not being here for very long herself, it didn't make her any less concerned about the well-being of the city and the people within it ( ... )

He was confused at first when he saw the woman approaching him. Squall was still getting used to how nice everyone he's met here has been so far. He'd never been treated with kindness on such a wide scale before. He supposed that the locals needed the outsiders and that outsiders shared a sort of kinship over their predicament.

As for his own well being, he was doing fine. He had minor cuts and scrapes and he was exhausted, but he was otherwise okay. He had lived through worse before. Much, much worse. Fighting was more or less his whole livelihood, after all.

"I'm fine," he replied. "Are you a medic?" Garden had its medics, and he'd been approached by them far more times than he could ever hope to count.

Kohaku straightened herself up, actually having to stop and think about that question for a moment.

"I ... guess you could say that?" she finally replied, offering him a sheepish smile. "I haven't been here for very long, to be honest. I just know a few healing artes and thought I could make myself useful by checking up on the city's inhabitants after the attacks." She then held out a hand to the man, intended for an introductory shake.

"I'm Kohaku."

Like he usually did when offered a hand, Squall stared at it for a few seconds before shaking.

"Squall. Just got here a few days ago." He was sure he still had that newbie vibe to him. He paused for a moment, then added, "I'm sure the people here appreciate what you're doing."
