James awoke happily from the night before. He and Lily had finally reconnected after learning about their future so instead of getting up as quickly as he would usually have done, he watched her sleep for a while.

All too soon, his bladder called for attention and so did his stomach, so he kissed her shoulder and got up. He didn't want to wake her either so he covered her over and went down to the kitchen.

The day was too nice to eat indoors, so James took his breakfast out into the garden. But there was already someone there. He stared for a while before approaching the man. "...Hello? Can I help you?"

Sirius froze when he heard James' voice. He knew that voice and his heart both quickened and froze at the proof that he'd been waiting for. James was alive.

Turning, Sirius glanced over his shoulder at his best friend, a sad smile on his face.

"Hasn't been that long, has it, Prongsy? Forgot your own best mate?"

James stared more. Now it had been said, it was obvious who was this. He crossed to his friend with a big grin on his face, his breakfast slammed on the table as he reaches out to hug his mate.

But he stopped short. Taking in the differences. He was older and much thinner. James shook himself mentally. He could ask about that later and moved forward again to embrace his friend.

Sirius almost let out a sigh of relief when James hugged him and he hugged back with as much strength as he could. Whether Vatheon was a dream or not, this felt real and that was enough to calm him a bit.

"Hey...how long's it been?"

[Shin didn't press when Sirius collapsed on the couch; there had been a harried look on Sirius's face that Shin didn't think had anything to do with the battle itself, more whatever had happened to Sirius while he was gone. Shin tried to puzzle out what could have possibly happened to him, but didn't try to move him from the couch either. He could be patient; Sirius was back - that was all that mattered.

To keep from stressing out about it too much, Shin spends the hottest part of the day out in the pool. He does laps, he floats on the surface, reclines on the edge of the pool, and does a few aquabatic maneuvers between it all. Knowing Sirius, he'll approach when he's ready and not a moment sooner.]

[Sirius heard the splashing and moved from the garden to view the pool. Of course, he should have known it would be Shin. A small smile flashed across his lips as he watched, taking a little bit of peace from the normalcy of it all.

He wanted to tell Shin everything...he wanted to hold him and kiss him and just know that he was there and Sirius was there, no longer locked up in a place filled with only horror and loss.

He also knew Shin would want answers...and, as much as he didn't want to think about it...didn't want Shin to know about all that had happened, he knew he couldn't keep it from the other man either. He'd never been able to keep much from Shin.

Sitting by the edge of the pool, he decided to just watch until he was noticed, not really minding how long it might take.]

[It was as Shin did strokes across the pool that he caught a glimpse of Sirius sitting there. Instead of continuing all the way down, he spiraled under the water to swim towards Sirius and pop up near him, then settle against the wall.]

Come to join me?

[Shin didn't do innuendo - not very well, anyway; this was purely a lighthearted attempt as a friend first and boyfriend second to get Sirius out of his funk.]

[Sirius thought about it for a moment before he shook his head and tried on a small smile just for him.]

I don't know...don't think I'd look so good in swim trunks right now. 'Sides...still a bit tired, I'd just slow you down.

Lily woke much later than she usually did, having slept peacefully for the first time in a very long time in James' arms. She took her time getting showered and dressed, not seeing any reason to hurry.

When she finally comes downstairs she heads straight for the kitchen, not even noticing that someone else has been in the house or is in the garden. She sings, softly, and the sound might float outdoors if the window is open. And on such a beautiful day, why wouldn't it be?

Sirius heard the voice and closed his eyes tightly, just listening to what sounded to him like a ghost. After a little while, he summoned up his courage and went to the doorway that lead from the garden, outside.

"Have I told you, recently, that I love it when you sing?"

Lily gasped, turning toward the familiar voice.

"Sirius!" she cried, running over to him to pull him into a hug. He looked...older. Thinner. Weaker. She hugged him tight and tried not to think about how long it had been for him.

He wrapped his arms around her gently, just savoring the fact that she was here and alive...it was almost enough to banish the images of hers and James' dead bodies that night that had been seared into his memories.

"Hey, there, Lils, it's good to see you again."
