There was a brief moment of panic as he registered the emptiness beside him until he registered just who the soft voice on the other side of the door was. "Yes, I'm awake," he called back just as softly, wondering what in the world she'd gotten up so early for.

She opened the door with one hand and entered, an almost apologetic smile on her face as she approached him.
"I'd sing for you, but I'd probably break a few windows trying: happy birthday."

That was when he took a better look at her and saw it, and felt like his heart would burst; she'd left her hair down. He always felt like it was something special when he remembered, even though she always did.

"I know, but I wanted to," she said with a shrug and intentionally flicked some of her hair over her shoulder, "I mean, you're a nice guy. You deserve to get spoiled every once in a while and if you're girlfriend can't do it, then who can?"
She leaned over to kiss him softly.
"So, for today, anything you want, you just have to ask for. We'll do whatever you like, whenever you like, wherever you like. And you are not going to argue your way out of it, deal?"
