She'd had it marked on her calendar, the only solid date she could guarantee being solid when it came to her relationship--('I still can't believe I'm in one.')--out of how many "what ifs" were involved. They couldn't be sure about the date they met, nor the precise date of when they got together--Kyonko wasn't one for anniversaries anyway--but their birthdays were something work remembering and celebrating.
Kyonko had gotten up early that morning to make breakfast. She was determined to be a more "proper" girlfriend and spoil Erk rotten that day. Anything he wanted, he got. He just had to ask, and she wouldn't take "no" for an answer when his inevitable protests started up.
The food done, she set it on the tray, alongside a small wrapped box containing something she'd been debating getting him for a while now. She ran her hands through her hair--loose today, Erk loved it when she wore her hair down--and straightened out the dress she wore before taking up the tray and carrying it into the bedroom.
"Erk? Are you awake?" she called softly.
