Birthday times with dontcallmeerky.

She'd had it marked on her calendar, the only solid date she could guarantee being solid when it came to her relationship--('I still can't believe I'm in one.')--out of how many "what ifs" were involved. They couldn't be sure about the date they met, nor the precise date of when they got together--Kyonko wasn't one for anniversaries anyway--but ( Read more... )

For once, Erk managed to wake up quickly upon being disturbed - mostly, anyway. He had absolutely no idea what day it was; after so long having so much more to worry about, especially in Econtra, he wasn't really in the habit of remembering his birthdays anymore.

There was a brief moment of panic as he registered the emptiness beside him until he registered just who the soft voice on the other side of the door was. "Yes, I'm awake," he called back just as softly, wondering what in the world she'd gotten up so early for.

Kyonko had honestly felt guilty about leaving their bed that morning. Between them getting shifted between worlds in their sleep so much, Kyonko had made it a habit of waiting until Erk was awake to get out of bed. He tended to panic when she was gone, just like she did if she ever woke up without him beside her.

She opened the door with one hand and entered, an almost apologetic smile on her face as she approached him.

"I'd sing for you, but I'd probably break a few windows trying: happy birthday."

Erk flushed a little, smiling. "L-love... you didn't have to get up so early just for this." Not that he wasn't flattered.

That was when he took a better look at her and saw it, and felt like his heart would burst; she'd left her hair down. He always felt like it was something special when he remembered, even though she always did.

She took a seat on the edge of the bed beside him and set the tray down.

"I know, but I wanted to," she said with a shrug and intentionally flicked some of her hair over her shoulder, "I mean, you're a nice guy. You deserve to get spoiled every once in a while and if you're girlfriend can't do it, then who can?"

She leaned over to kiss him softly.

"So, for today, anything you want, you just have to ask for. We'll do whatever you like, whenever you like, wherever you like. And you are not going to argue your way out of it, deal?"

Erk went a little redder at that and turned to return the kiss. "You do realize telling me we'll do anything I like is a good way to make sure I can't come up with something unless I already had it in mind, right?"

Kyonko sat back and shrugged.

"I figure if push comes to shove we can go out to eat, maybe find something in town to do, then come back home to have sex," she said, blushing at her own bluntness but proud that she wasn't shying away from the topic.

"A-Anyway, come on! Eat! I worked hard on making breakfast for you."

He flushed a little at the last part of her plan. "Well, um, that does sound good. I don't see any problem with that."

He smiled a little, looking down at the food. "It all looks so good, I don't know where to start."

"You're still picking what we're going to do. And.... erm...." She cursed herself for her blushing. "I'll be on top tonight. And.... we can use the handcuffs. If that's what you want to do?"

She finally glanced down at the food herself and shrugged.

"Wherever you like. Unless.... uhhh.... you want to open your present now?"

Her blush got even deeper as she gestured to the small wrapped package. She still couldn't believe she'd gotten that for him. What was she? Sixteen and in lo--

'Scratch that thought. I kind of am. Ugh. Seriously, why did I pick something as sappy as that?'

Erk was blushing just as brightly as she explained her plans, too flustered to respond. He blinked a little, then sighed a bit with relief as she suggested opening the present. "All right..."

He unwrapped it quickly and opened the box, curious now to see what was inside.

Inside was a ring. A simple gold one with a basic design engraved on it. Kyonko did her best not to look away in embarrassment.

"It.... uhhhh.... It's a promise ring," she said so he wouldn't take it the wrong way. True to the times they'd talked about it, Kyonko was nowhere near ready for marriage or anything of the sort just yet.

He blinked a bit, then flushed and looked up at her again. "Love..." He wasn't entirely sure what a promise ring was, but he could guess enough to make him pull her close and kiss her happily.

Kyonko made a surprised sound into the kiss before returning it. Truth be told, she'd been nervous about the whole thing when she first came up with it. What if it was too forward? Or too sappy? Or too a million other things she could think of? For him to be this happy about it was a great relief for her and she reached up to run a hand across his cheek before pulling back.

"S-so, you like it?"

"It's wonderful," he whispered, smiling at her through his blush. "Thank you, love."

She reached for the ring, then, and took Erk's hand, a pleased smile on her face as she slid it on his finger.

"I love you. I want to be with you and I.... when I'm ready to.... when we're ready to.... I'd really like to.... I'd really like to find a way to make things work. I'm serious about that."

Erk flushed brightly, but he was still smiling as he looked back at her. "So do I, love," he said softly. "I love you... so much."

"I love you, too," she said, drawing back, "Now, eat up. Breakfast is getting cold."
