Protests... again

OK, I get that (mostly) everyone is pissed about the protests happening in Vancouver, and the destruction of property, vandalism, etc., but one comment comes up repeatedly that makes no sense:

"They'd get more attention if they protested peacefully."

Now, love the Olympics or hate them, hopefully everyone here is smart enough to realize how ridiculous that statement is. Just like the rubberneckers at an accident scene, everyone is interested in violence. The more violence the papers print, the more people buy the papers. It's the same everywhere, for every cause, everywhere across the world.

If you don't like the violence, stop buying the papers, watching the news, reading the online reports, and everything else. By continuously discussing it and giving money to the media outlets, you are giving the protesters the attention they are so desperately seeking, and feeding the media with money, viewers, or website hits whenever they report about violence, which then makes the idea of creating more violence alluring to those who want to be on the front page.

Think about it.

Now, is it possible to talk about something OTHER than the Olympics? Has this been beaten to death enough yet? Does anyone know some good, non-Olympic related entertainment going on this week?
