OK, there’s currently a thing going on on Youtube where folks post their preferred votes, Eurovision-style (i.e. 12, 10,8-1), to re-caps of past Eurovision contests. So far, all the recaps for 1956-1976 seem to be online, as well as all the ones from 1997-2007, plus ones for 1985, 1987, 1994 and 1995. This catchy tune was to be France’s contribution to Eurovision 1974, but it was not to be. President Georges Pompidou died around that time, and the burial was to take place the same day as the Eurovision contest, so France withdrew, never to see how well they’d do against ABBA and the like.

It’s a clip of Gudny Aspaas (Ursavision veteran!) and Jahn Teigen singing a tune called “Voodoo” at the 1976 Norsk Melodi Grand Prix. It was penned by Norwegian jazz guitar legend Terje Rypdal, who also plays lead guitar on the tune. That’s Jahn’s then-current band Popol Ace playing.
