Summer is over. :-(

Unbelievable that summer is basically over.  Still summer weather, but still, I'm bummed. It was the best summer I've had in years and can't believe we're heading into Fall already.  Oh well ( Read more... )

IF you make note of the bills you might be able to do those online for them before hand next time. I hardly look at the snail mail bills anymore but they're there if the internet goes down on me so I know who to call.

You're the best son ever.

Modern society doesn't have the social framework it used to unless you're involved in a church or club of some sort. *grins* Libraries will often have book clubs....

I already set up all the normal monthly bills on auto-pay and also have the ability to transfer funds between their accounts for them if needed so they don't have to go to the bank, but some things like car registration or their life and long-term care insurance payments, etc. that don't come monthly slip by and just end up in a stack of unopened mail somewhere. So every time I go up, I look around for the stacks and go through them and usually find something that needs taking care of.

They don't want anyone but me to do anything. I tried lining up help to come in, but they had a fit, so me it is. :-/

It's an excuse to have you there, I'm sure. If you think your social life is somewhat stunted, think what they feel theirs is. You're it.

Do they use the internet? My grandmother was the self appointed genealogist of the family and was gadding around talking to people on the subject online pretty much to the end at 100.

My father has no interest in technology and won't even use an auto-teller. He has to go into the bank and do it in person. They also insist on still getting paper bills even though I have everything on autopay, so that's why there's so much to go through when I get home. Most just needs to be thrown away, but they don't want me to throw anything away. I did get my dad a computer and set up email for him, but he never checks it ( ... )

Glad you have deemed social is good and not imposwd such tough restrictions on yourself.

As for the $500 bill, thats just so tacky. We used to end up paying all the tip in a group ...finally changed up how we did things to end that.

A tough job with your parents but kudos to you for doing it. I hope at some point, they will let you have someone check on them too. The painkillers suck for memory. R only takes them at night to sleep but that can still keave him scattered and forgetting things. He always as bad at short term memory anyway.

Yay for that great birthday dinner and it being as good as reviewed :)

Hugs. Have a good trip north.

I think for some people who go out in a group, they find it a good opportunity to mooch. LOL. They can't be that oblivious.

By the way, the fried goat cheese balls at Sur I'd heard so much about and made me want to go there just to try them did not live up to their reputation, but maybe I'd heard so much that I expected more than they could live up to. ha. But they got me in there, the meal was amazing and the restaurant was beautiful. I'd definitely go back.

Didn't know R had chronic pain. I can't imagine living with pain every day all day. :-(
