i think self-important righteous indignation is threaded into american consciousness to the point where its become inseparable from being "american". for example, your irritation with the treatment of john mayer is just as reactionary as the injustice that's being done to him in the press. ;)

but more seriously, from an outsider's perspective, its just another facet of precious american individualism. me-first mentalities tend to make everyone feel like they're a victim of somebody else. mayer was an easy villain by hitting the wrong chord in people.

Well, I'm arguing for the right of man to say what he thinks are honest things without having to apologize after. They're arguing about feelings and how everyone ought to watch what they say or they might hurt someone's feelings. Everything they stand for is lies and censorship, while I stand only for freedom and the right of a man to act like an asshole. Maybe you can say, as you seem to be saying, that both of these have a very clear and simple 1:1 correlation of "reactionary," but that's really simplifying it to its most base elements and refusing not only to take a side but to acknowledge there's a difference. That's another disease humanity suffers from, the disease of thinking that everything is the same as everything else. I wouldn't say that reacting to reactionaries is the same as being a reactionary yourself in the very same way that I wouldn't say that someone who hates Jews and someone who hates anti-Semites for being narrow-minded and hating Jews are exactly the same, though you could probably stick them in a box
