[The graveyard. He's probably not the only one hanging out there right now, but Sam's fully prepared to wait this out as long as he needs to.]

[He looks tired, but since when is that new?]Cole, if you're available, can you drop by and get the keys for the Roadhouse? I'm staying on graveyard duty for the moment ( Read more... )

[He nods when the video cuts on.] I'll be down in a sec.

Thanks. This really means a lot to me.

[Sam's tired, but his smile is at least true.]

[And then Cole was awkward because really dude, it's picking up a key.] Uh, yeah. Sure. No problem.

[It's picking up a key so that Sam can be there for Cas when he gets back. That actually is something to be thanked for.]

Sorry. Just...going to be hanging out here for a bit.

For a second I thought you were gonna ask Cole to cook, I was going to warn you not to let him in the kitchen unless you don't want the Roadhouse around anymore.

So, I shouldn't let Cole cook for the same reasons I don't let Dean cook. Gotcha.

If Dean makes things explode or sets it on fire on accident then yup, don't let him cook. I don't let him into our kitchen for anything but beer.

Dean's a bit better than that. He just doesn't cook much of anything that can't be made from a package.

[Which, honestly, was mostly John's fault.]

[From the looks of it Misaki is near the graveyard with a shovel in hand.]

Do the graves have names on them?

[Sam sighs, rubbing his hand over his face.]

None that I've seen. It's possible that they don't have names until someone's in them. At least, I'm hoping that's the reason.

So how will we find those who died?

I'm doing sweeps. Other than that, I'm at a loss.

[Anna comes trudging into the graveyard, red-eyed and sniffling a bit, carrying an armload of blankets, Henry the stuffed platypus, and a large thermos.] Hey, Sam. I brought coffee.

[She's unsurprised that he's here, and also in no mood to indulge his usual skittishness. If he wants to believe she's still out to get him, it's his business; damned if she's going to compound an already miserable wait by fretting about it.]

[Sam looks up at her, stiffening a moment before letting it go. Anna's had ample time since he's turned up in the Underworld to have made a move. If nothing else, Cas trusted her and Sam trusted Cas.]

Thanks. I didn't think about bringing anything to drink before I lit out here.

[He casts a glance over the graveyard.] Then again, I didn't expect to be waiting very long, either.

[She hands the thermos over.] No? I haven't had to wait out anyone here before. The last time it--ah... [She runs a hand through her hair, heaving a deep sigh as her eyes start to well up again. The last time my brother was killed. It's becoming a goddamn meme.] Well, anyway, I thought Cas might be cold when he wakes up, too.

[He takes the thermos, opening it up and looking out over the graveyard again.]

Admittedly, the last time I was here, I think there had really only been just enough time for Cas to make it here from the Roadhouse. I thought it usually went that fast. [He glances up at her.] The old injuries thing. I was stabbed in the back not long before we took Azazel out.

[He does smile a bit at the blanket.] He might be. It certainly couldn't hurt.

[His first instinctual breath nearly sent him into panic. He didn't get any air so much as particles of dirt to choke on. That's when it clicked: buried. He was buried. Most of his mind -- aware of absolutely nothing just moments ago -- immediately jumped to panic and fear, while a small part of him clawed for control.

He expected this, sort of, and that meant he could deal with it. He wouldn't be buried deep. (Hopefully, hopefully.) The dirt was loose enough that he could move, he could dig himself out. He'd be okay.

But that panicking part of him was very hard to suppress.

Castiel clawed at the dirt, coughing and hoping for air. Just... air. When fingers broke through the surface, he couldn't be blamed if one of those coughs became a choked sound of sheer relief.]

[It took a few moments for somebody to respond. Mostly because they had to figure out where the sound had come from. Sam spotted the hand first, reaching out to take Anna's elbow for a moment, pointing it out.]

There.

[All Sam cared about was getting the person unearthed. And he was pretty sure he'd know that hand anywhere. Which was why he dropped to his knees next to the grave, using the small garden-type spade to start digging.]

We're here, Cas. Just hold on. We've got you.

[Anna crouches on the opposite side and gives that seeking hand a quick squeeze, then rapidly but carefully starts scooping out the loose earth roughly where his head and shoulders should be.] Cas, it's okay. You'll be out of there in no time.

[He didn't hear the voices, not well at any rate, muffled as they were through the dirt but the fact that someone was there was unmistakeable. (He thought that was name being called and the squeeze on his hand was reassuring.) Once they started helping him clear dirt away, it was only moments before he was able to pull himself up, still choking from that first panicked attempt to breathe.

... And perhaps still on the edge of panic itself. The grave seemed very... closed-in. Very small.]
