[The graveyard. He's probably not the only one hanging out there right now, but Sam's fully prepared to wait this out as long as he needs to.]

[He looks tired, but since when is that new?]Cole, if you're available, can you drop by and get the keys for the Roadhouse? I'm staying on graveyard duty for the moment ( Read more... )

[His first instinctual breath nearly sent him into panic. He didn't get any air so much as particles of dirt to choke on. That's when it clicked: buried. He was buried. Most of his mind -- aware of absolutely nothing just moments ago -- immediately jumped to panic and fear, while a small part of him clawed for control.

He expected this, sort of, and that meant he could deal with it. He wouldn't be buried deep. (Hopefully, hopefully.) The dirt was loose enough that he could move, he could dig himself out. He'd be okay.

But that panicking part of him was very hard to suppress.

Castiel clawed at the dirt, coughing and hoping for air. Just... air. When fingers broke through the surface, he couldn't be blamed if one of those coughs became a choked sound of sheer relief.]

[It took a few moments for somebody to respond. Mostly because they had to figure out where the sound had come from. Sam spotted the hand first, reaching out to take Anna's elbow for a moment, pointing it out.]

There.

[All Sam cared about was getting the person unearthed. And he was pretty sure he'd know that hand anywhere. Which was why he dropped to his knees next to the grave, using the small garden-type spade to start digging.]

We're here, Cas. Just hold on. We've got you.

[Anna crouches on the opposite side and gives that seeking hand a quick squeeze, then rapidly but carefully starts scooping out the loose earth roughly where his head and shoulders should be.] Cas, it's okay. You'll be out of there in no time.

[He didn't hear the voices, not well at any rate, muffled as they were through the dirt but the fact that someone was there was unmistakeable. (He thought that was name being called and the squeeze on his hand was reassuring.) Once they started helping him clear dirt away, it was only moments before he was able to pull himself up, still choking from that first panicked attempt to breathe.

... And perhaps still on the edge of panic itself. The grave seemed very... closed-in. Very small.]

[Sam reached in as soon as Cas was able to sit up, taking the angel's other hand for a moment.]

Hey. Hey, you're okay. We've got you.

[He wasn't even bothered by Anna being there. Maybe he should have been, but honestly? If she'd wanted him dead, he would have been. Several times over. Surprisingly, it made him feel safer in concentrating on Cas.]

[Anna might've been gratified to know that, but as it stands she's just relieved her brother's back among the living and in one piece.] Easy, Cas. Take a minute to catch your breath and then we'll get you up out of there. Here, let me get that... [She very carefully brushes the worst of the clinging soil out of his eyes and then backs off a bit, ready to help as needed, but still trying to give him some space. And to keep a peripheral awareness of their surroundings as well; she wouldn't put it past the powers-that-be here to send a nasty surprise while they're all distracted.]

[Anna gave good advice, but Castiel would rather catch his breath standing up rather than still covered in too much dirt. It was good having them there, if only because Castiel absolutely refused to succumb to anything close to panic with them around. He could swallow that idiotic phobic reaction to small spaces -- like graves, thanks very much, Underworld -- and concentrate on just standing up.

He scrambled to his feet -- probably with a little help from Sam, but he was a little too off-balance to really notice -- and stood beside the grave, brushing dirt from his hands and face.

Really. He'd like to breathe now.]

[Sam was more than happy to give the help that Castiel needed, though he was careful not to touch longer than Cas wanted. He did pull a bandana out of his pocket and offered it to the angel. It hadn't been that long ago that he'd crawled out of his own grave.]

I'm thinking we add some clean up supplies to the med kits in the graveyard. [Depending on the reasons why people were there, it could be a good thing to be able to clean a little of the dirt away right away instead of being forced to keep it.]

[...or he can just scramble up on his own and breathe after. That works too.]

[Rising] That's probably a good idea. [Glancing around] I might even start leaving stuff out here...there won't always be someone waiting. [It's not hard to imagine a scenario where someone dies off-camera and returns before anyone misses them, or where a whole group goes at close to the same time. And there are always a few people in town who just haven't got anyone to come find them.]

You okay, Cas? [Dumb question, maybe, but then the definition of okay has become kind of relative in this place. Mainly she just wants to know that the Underworld still hasn't managed to completely unhinge him.]

[He took the bandana offered and, coughing a few more times, finally managed to get to a place where he didn't feel like he had to keep wiping at his eyes or mouth. Clean up supplies sound like a wonderful idea; maybe he should have though of that before he'd ended up out here.

He nodded at Anna's question.] I'm all right. [Not quite but he wanted to alleviate any lingering worry from either Sam or Anna. That meant speaking.]

[Well, Sam was just full of good ideas tonight.]

I'm also going to talk to those of us doing the security rounds and stuff, make sure that we all start making a few more rounds through the graveyard while on shift. Just in case, you know?

[He doesn't believe you for a minute, Cas, but he's also not going to call you on it. If that's what you need to function, then that works.]

Sounds like a plan. [Anna trudges over and fetches the stuff she brought with her.] I brought coffee, Cas, when you're up for it. Are you cold? [Henry's there solely for her benefit, in case the wait had proved a long one.]

Not cold. [Maybe a little, but he didn't want to admit it. He will, however, gladly take some of that coffee.] Coffee. [Now would be great. And then could they maybe get out of the damn graveyard?

...Actually, he can walk and drink. Definitely could walk and drink.]

[And Sam's seen that look often enough that he knows what to do.]

Come on. Let's move this to the Roadhouse. Cole's keeping an eye on things as it is. I'm sure he'd be glad to have some more company.

[And Cas could get a shower and clean up and something to eat. Which was the important part of things.]

[Anna pours a cup and passes it to him as they walk, and if she's just a little bit on the overprotective/hovery side on the way there, she hopes nobody will hold it against her. These recurring Cas-deaths are hell on a big sister's nerves.]
