Rock Village, Sunday Morning

Nov 01, 2009 15:14

After an exciting day back home yesterday - which had ended in Dax pitching a fit and ranting all through dinner, much to Jak's amusement - Jak was ready and packed for the second part of their trip. He'd thought about going the long way, through Fire Canyon, which would've been cool. Maybe on the way back, though. Right now, he just wanted to get ( Read more... )

Couple of months, Jak said, with a light shrug, padding out of the hut towards the cliffs leading down.

"Where did the people go?" Dinah asked, hurrying after him and then saying, "Whoa! Are we rappelling or climbing down? Or is there a staircase somewhere?"

Jak leaned over the main cliff, and pointed down. Not a staircase, no, but little stepping stones, if you wanted to call it that, and off to the left was the clatter of a waterfall dropping into the water far below. I think they live in the rock now, he offered. Getting back to normal after the attack.

If Dinah had ever been scared of heights, this place would've been impossible. Since that wasn't the case, she managed to keep herself from wriggling with anticipation with a main effort. What attacked them? she asked, reaching out and squeezing his arm for balance as she followed him.

Klaww did, he said, hopping down to the first stone, which indeed towered high above the water at only a slightly lower level. He nearly razed it to the ground before they managed to temporarily block off the passage he was coming through.

"Klaww?" Dinah said aloud, and frowned, hopping along after him, peering over the side and getting dizzy with vertigo for a second, then hurrying to catch up. What did he want? And can he come back?

Jak shrugged, momentarily preoccupied with making his way down into the bay below. Eventually, his feet hit the solid, flat ground of the village's main plane, facing a rock wall, and glanced back, waiting for her to catch up.

Dinah hit the ground next to him only a few seconds later, and then bounced up on her toes, looking around, and then snagged her phone out of her bag. Click! and Jak and the area was immortalized. Okay, not much to see, but still!

If you turned, there was the archeologist inspecting things with her careful eye, and the tavern to the right, and the big... hole in the cliff face that lead somewhere they couldn't see yet! Klaww fell in the lava, Jak supplied, with a mental shrug, fingers trailing on her wrist for a moment.

Oh! Yeah, that would do it, Dinah said, distracted by the finger-trailing for a second, then snapping another photo before smiling at Jak. "OOo. Place to drink on the way back? And where's that go? she asked, reaching out so her fingertips landed somewhere in the vicinity of his hand. Nope. Not trying to take his pulse. Unh-uh.

Precursor basin, he promptly ponied up, grinning. Wanna ride a zoomer?

Anything with a name like 'zoomer' was going to get an enthusiastic Sure! Totally! and a bounce as she followed him. "Yay Precursor cities! Do you know how old they are? Does anyone?"

Uh. Really really old? First, complicated questions about words. Now, questions about numbers. Where would it end, Dinah? Presidential debates? He shrugged helplessly at the archeologist as he tugged Dinah past her without much fanfare.

Now you could see the shiny golden Precursor tech crawling up into the hill, the outlines of a large building in the distance, an archway, and a humming blue platform that held a zoomer. You'll have to hold on.

She might not even remember the answers, but she was compelled to ask by the power of Wanna Know!

Dinah let herself be tugged in the direction of what she hoped was her next adrenaline rush, though, and felt her eyes go huge as she saw the zoomer. "OOoooooooo," she breathed. "Okay! Wow. Flying motorcycle! Yes!"

Come on!

With that, Jak let go, mostly to launch himself at the zoomer with the practiced ease of a professional adrenaline junkie.

And far be it from Dinah to turn down anything resembling thrills or a dare. She hopped on the back, and wrapped her arms around Jak's waist, settling in close to him, hanging on with her legs close to his as well as her arms tightening on him. Like this? She giggled. Ready!
